I 100% agree Randy. Nice post; I'd give you another star if I could figure out how.
Click on the posters name in the left column - it will be underlined and blue. Then go to My Profile. There will be a horizontal bar and one option will be Rate This User. You can then select how many stars you would rate that person.
I always advise people to attend one of the high level self defense schools,
I will stress the "high level self defense schools." There are so many self defense classes, many consist primarily of de-escalation techniques, dealing with conflict by means of your body language, or verbally only, maybe good to know, but better to know the rest!
If I feel threatened I'm taking action. Questions and answers will happen later, the law not withstanding. I'm not going to be second guessed by some thug because I stopped to gauge whether or not the law deemed my actions appropriate, that's the only time I might have to save my life and or limb.
I find a quiet attentive staring dog much more intimidating then a frantic barking jumping at the end of the lead mindless animal.

For learning real world unarmed combat, there's only one place to go: http://www.rmcat.com/
Any of these schools would make an excellent vacation and would change your outlook of the world in ways that I can't even explain.
Will, would these schools be appropriate for a certified firearms instructor? My husband is a LEO of 30 years and an instructor, but I would love to do something for him along these lines... Would you recommend them for someone of his experience level?
Barbara,
I have 5 combat tours and my years as an LEO, and I learn something new that I can use everytime I attend one of those schools.
Your husband would *love* them!
Oh how cool! Doug is THE hardest man on the planet to buy a gift for... THIS gives me hope! Yeah. Thanks, Will!
My wife got me a lifetime membership for my birthday a few years ago and it's paid for itself several times over!
I then got her a new AR15 and her own lifetime membership for Sweetest Day........didn't have the impact that I had hoped for, perhaps I should have thrown in some roses....
Bah! Women!

Shoot. I think you did good. As a young newlywed, Doug called me from work and told me he had a surprise he was bringing home. As a young, innocent (aka: ignorant)newlywed girl, my mind went wild wondering what wonderful goodie was coming my way...
Doug walked in and proudly set a brown lunch bag on the table. A bit surprised, this was not what I expected, I told myself "the best things come in small packages and don't judge a book by it's cover" and went to slowly open my surprise...
There was a blue CRAWFISH waving his little, evil claw at me saying "go ahead woman, make my day". I closed the bag and looked at my knight in shining armor with a WTF!!! look on my face, to which he exclaimed - I know you love animals - isn't he cool??!! A few years later I received a BB gun HE wanted as an anniversary present.... (Deep sigh.)
