The "student" thing threw everyone off - that implies you are in college. I guess what you meant was something along the lines of "students in the world of dog training"... Got it.
Saving $12,000 certainly shows a level of commitment and desire.
What is your experience with dogs in the past? What have you had, what types of training on them, etc...
(Feel like you're being interrogated a bit?) hehehe.
Hah, I do feel a little better now. I felt like I was being attacked but I took a look at my first post and I can see how it was very vague. I'm just not much of a talker and I guess I'm bad at explaining things.
Anyway, my family has had dogs since I was little, dogs from great danes to chihuahuas. I cureently own and trained both my chihuahua and pit/lab mix. I worked with a training facility recently and thats where I discovered my passion, hwoever, as I got further into it I saw how many things they were just doing wrong and decided to move on. I won't go into details but I feel bad for the poor dogs in their kennel.

Have you thought about volunteering at your local shelter? Helping put basic ob on dogs will make them more adoptable and you can often arrange some follow up when the dog is adopted?

My questions has nothing to do with your age or that you are just getting started. I have placed dogs successfully in both situations.
My concern is the feeling that just any old dog will do, the dog is secondary to the class, almost like a school supply you are checking off the list.
I'm a little confused to your goal. Do you want to breed? Be a trainer? If yes to either one of the above questions, what kind?
I want to be a trainer, as previously stated. I do not want to breed, ever. trust me the dog will not be considered as a "school supply" I just waited to get a new dog around the time of this course that way it can be a learning experience for us both. i was going to get a puppy before, but then i thought about it and i don't want to mess it up too bad as a puppy and then not be able to fix it. but like i said i have had dogs all my life, and they are family members. i have never given away a pet and they have all lived with me to die of old age, happy in their beds.

Gotcha. I did go back and read one of your posts that I missed the first time on what your goals are.
Can you tell we kind of look at situations dog first, people poor second?

It was more of a feeble attempt at humor. The membership here has a tendency to put the well being of dogs first and foremost, and we can be a little bit blunt about it at times.

ah, i gottcha. hah. well then i guess I'll fit right in. Well, Thanks guys. I'm glad to have met a group of people so concerned about the dogs. I'm going to go look into some rescue groups and this won't be the last you've heard of me.
Shaniqua Bradley- remember that name, because you'll hear it later

Just chiming in to wish you luck. I'm a little jealous--I'd love to chuck everything and go to dog training school! Really.
I think rescue is a great idea. A good rescue organization will have just as many questions about you as you will them--just like a good breeder would. They don't want to place a pup/dog with you that won't succeed. So just be as honest with them as you would with a breeder about what your plans are for this pup and what you're looking for in terms of temperament, drive, etc.
Congrats on your new adventure.

Can I just say that rescue would top my list here -- no question at all -- if I were in your enviable position?
What an opportunity to help "fix" (most dogs are not surrendered because they are perfect -- they are usually surrendered because of developmental/training/socializing damage done by some human), and to do it right.
A chance to learn how to do what you will probably do (if you are lucky) for the rest of your life.
