The more I think about this, the more I think there is a parallel between being a working-dog enthusiast, and being a martial artist.
The best martial artists are usually the ones avoiding conflict altogether. Because if something does go down, and they use their training to injure someone, they are going to be fighting a serious uphill battle when the dust settles.
Ignore, forward momentum, and trample all who enter your space. Kind of like getting off a train in Rome during rush hour.
this works REALLY well. Pretend you don't hear them, just dodge and go (really helps your heel command to teach your dog to suddenly change direction and speed with you). That's how I solved the issue with some of the most obnoxious people around here....silent charging treatment!
That seems like a good solution...I don't want to come off as mean because I do want to be able to educate people, but just not in the middle of training. I will start with ignore and then let if progress from there if they still don't get the hint.
Actually speaking of kids my neighbors kids like to hit their baseballs and golf balls over the fence. I have told them time and time again not to,but, they dont listen. Caught a 16yr boy trying to open the gate and come get his ball. Luckily i saw him first and not the dogs. They are not people aggressive but you never know. I tell them no they cant pet the dogs.
Let the dogs chew on them a bit before you take them away....then give them back to the kids.
Won't take long before no more golf, base, wiffle or any other kind of ball comes flying over the fence.
