With that said - I'd ONLY suggest a working line GSD, so that is where finding a breeder you trust who will honestly guide you in selecting the right puppy from any given litter... and walking away from a litter if the right pup was not available. Labs are also wonderful family dogs, but again, I'd go with a good working line dog. Trust the breeder, etc... Bottom line; I've had wonderful family dogs throughout my life, from labs to standard poodles (incredibly smart dogs), GSDs and mutts. They ALL took an incredible amount of attention/training as pups to get to the point of being the "good family dog" you desire. That alone is not bred... it is created by you and your family. LOTS of work and attention and training.

I planned on the 8 weeks to 8 months video along with the obedience video. Establishing pack structure for the family dog is not one I have looked into yet.
