Farm dogs learn as pups that chasing deer is pointless. My dogs will chase deer a hundred yards or so. They do tree coons around the house which we shoot from time to time. They only thing my dogs will really chase and track hard are rabbits.
Yup, same here. The dogs just aren't allowed to chase critters so it's usually not a big deal. Sometime it takes a while for them to learn completely, but it happens eventually. Last week I was unaware there was a deer in the yard when I let the dogs out. Missy ignored it, I called Kipp off with no issue and Kenzi had an ecollar on so she came off after a correction.
