After trying it for a few months it's not for me i'm going back to the old ways. i want it black and white . i don't want him trying to figure out what i want. i will still continue to use food, etc and buy the dvd's and take what is useful for me i worked with her six days a week short periods i took he to pet smart. i forgot the food she didn't want to listen i took her out and reinforced the sit she knowa what it is now.
What is it you don't like? If you lift up on the collar and say sit, he still has to try and figure out what you want. I'm lost on what your trying to say.
what i didn't like was the fact that if i don't have food she refuses to listen if i stick my hand in my pocket like i'm getting a treat she is right there. my point i know she understands the exercise . just like when we go to the bank drive up she goes crazy waiting for teller to send out a treat . the funny thing my wife tells her to sit when she takes outside she does and very happy with no treat she has learned that nothing happens unless she gets a treat when she is with me.
i think it;s time for connie to close the tread. we will have to agree to disagree thanks for the responses
Avoidance John? I'm not disagreeing with anything. I just think you've blurred the difference between formal training and basic manners because you think marker training is somehow incompatable with not jumping on people.
Even back in 1993 I learned about weaning off treats John, If you don't want to discuss it, no big deal.

Sounds like you got a smart girl. Something like this I would start using more of a variable food reward and would help her into position with a little leash pressure as I gave the command.

"I forgot the food and she didn't want to listen".
John, this is your whole post right here.
Not a jab or insult but this statement tells me you didn't wean off the food properly. You never got it past a bribe if she wouldn't perform without food.
I absolutely do not have a problem with corrections. As mentioned before I did what I did just to see if I could and the club I belonged to required it. It was my introduction to marker training and I'll forever use it. Exclusive? Probably not but it will be 90% of all my training.
