That's so cool Jaimie, glad to hear you're having fun along the way.
Destinations are always good to reach but it's the things we do along the way that I always find the most memorable.
Drive safe, have fun. Can't wait to see the pic's, they sound adorable.

So here are all these unrelated folks, reading over a year about this dog, seeing how his life isnt working out. Each thinking to themselves,"Jeez, maybe I should DO something ...This isn't your standard anonymous rescue, I kinda know this pooch" but of course Christmas is coming, he might not get on with my critters, yah dah yah dah yah dah......
Then here comes Jamie, out of the blue, a great trainer, devoted owner, with a mentally healthy role model dog.
Driving across the country for God's sake, in winter.
It's an inspiration. Reminds me I could step up my own efforts a little.....
If I was your mother I would be SO SO proud.

Wholeheartedly agree! Add in the fact that she is in college which is a full time in itself, has a high energy, amazingly trained dog (It is obvious she puts her heart into it 100%) and was still more than willing to take on a new project- Just AWESOME!

Awesome job, Jamie! Very glad your adventure has gone as well as it has so far and that you're safe. What a story you'll have when this is all over.

Okay, some updates, the photo ones are coming later as I'm having trouble getting then off the ipad....
We're back and rested-ish.....Gambit is settling in nicely. He and Ryuk are best buds now (snoozing on the bed at the moment). We did a passing introduction between him and Rico last night on the way upstairs but Rico wasn't in the right mindset for anything more than that. We held off on a proper introduction till this morning in the light of day in a more neutral area. It went very well, after a promising start we let Ryuk join them to give Rico someone else to bug and turned them out to explored the yard a bit, all polite friendly interactions. They won't get to play together for a while yet (not because of anything either dog did, but in play Rico's a body slammer and Gambit's a leggy lightweight baby). Ryuk and Gambit will be allowed to interact regularly though they will be worked separately like normal.
We also had a bit of unplanned cat interaction last night that went wonderful. We were shuffling animals around (Rotating everyone outside, preparing food/food toys, back into crates, upacking) before bed and the cats managed to get out of their room. Gambit was interested but polite (and on leash). My housemate's kitten strolled right up and rubbed him, Gambit laid down and licked his ears. The other cat Zoomie is not pleased but also okay, she's going to be the chasing concern since she teleports from surface to surface, so far Gambit's ignored her for the most part. Gambit will be tethered for some time so he'll have plenty of time to learn proper house rules with the cats around, doesn't look like we'll have to worry, so we won't be locking them up when he's out on leash.
Introductions to the humans in the house was pretty mellow. My female housemate he cuddled right up on . He was very excited and barking when her fiance came in, clearly hoping for a fun game of tug wit his jacket. But he calmed down very quickly when told to and became a ball of cuddles as soon as my housemate got his jacket off and sat down. We're going to be watching him around my male housemate, he (the housemate) is more aggressive in appearance and he moves in a more stiff manner (back injury), he does know this and will out of his way to be a bit looser for a least a little while while Gambit settles in.
First vet appointment which is just a "hey, let's put a dog face to this file" check up is friday. Nick had all records transferred no problems and Gambit's been put into their computer According to the records he'll need a heartworm test but is UTD on everything he needs to be. We'll be doing a fecal to. Because I don't know how he'll do for the vet we'll be doing some fun marker training with the basket muzzle just in case he needs it.
He's eating well, poop is slightly soft but good (meal this morning was 10% new kibble), he's the messiest drinker I've EVER seen (it's that thin Mal tongue, can't catch water). We'll be making a run to the local pet store day as he's chewed his harness in half already, he needs a tighter collar until he bulks out a bit. He also uh....may need a sweater for a little bit until he gets used to our weather here....luckily the indoor area for training will be finished within the next couple weeks so we'll have a warmer place to train on the really bad days. I also need to pick up more musher's secret, his paw pads are a bit dry and cracky.
