I obviously don't have Duane's athletic reflexes, because I can press that button a whole lot quicker then I can pop a leash
I don't have great reflexes, either, hence the verbal mark in connection with the physical correction. I don't believe in keeping the leash tight or holding the dog's head up, either.

I would stick with one or the other too. Clarity, simplicity ..... and one link in the command chain at a time.
some of us here will use the clicker OR "yes" at various times but those that do have become quite proficient with marker training. Don't confuse your dog OR yourself by switching back and forth until you and the dog really understand what your doing.
