Kasey had giardia as a young dog and took 2 weeks of Flagyl, and he's never had it again. My vet said she's found it's more effective than panicure.
Also, when they've done the fecal test, have they done the Elisa giardia test, or just a regular fecal exam? The Elisa costs a little more, but it seems to be better at detecting those spores. We had 2 regular tests show negative, but the Elisa came back positive.

Finally, as of yesterday she had solid logs. YEAH!!
Went to the vet today, he did Rx Flagyl -ten day course. He said even if she doesn't have giardia, it treats colitis.
He said he always uses the Elisa test for giardia. (Thanks for the info Lori)
Any tips on what online supplier to use to fill this script? I think it's fairly pricey.

Whatever you do -- do this. Keep 1 pill from the 'script, the last 1. Put it in a sealed container in your refrigerator. The next time this happens you will be prepared.
Maybe there will be no next time --- but like as not, it will be Saturday pm, everyone closed, or Christmas Eve. I KNOW this is not what they tell you to do----("Give EVERY pill, the full monty, and throw away all medicine after") but it is prudent to have this medication on hand.
Having drugs on hand is practical. Label the medication so you know what it is for. Dry pills last forever sealed and refrigerated.
In my view all pet owners should have some basic antibiotics on hand. With the internet as a guide it's hard to get into trouble and having some medication gives you power and control, and can buy you time to get professional help.

I get all Kasey's drugs at Costco. They are a LOT less expensive there.

I read somewhere that you don't even have to be a member to use the pharmacy.

The story continues....
While at the vet about the soft stool, I inquired about her awkward gait. I told him her hind end is wobbly when she walks, and am concerned about her hips. I had to talk him into x-rays. He called back later that day to tell us he forwarded her films to a colleague at Purdue because it appeared "there was not much space between her vertebrae, and he was curious about something he saw between her lumbar and sacrum". My husband took the call, so I didn't get a chance to question further. But, he did say her hips look great, and we have solid logs.
Today is her 2nd birthday and instead of celebrating with raw beef, I am worried and stressed out about what it could be.

Her hips look great, you have solid logs, and your GP vet showed real dedication to your dog and you by asking for the opinion of an intervertebral specialist.
These are things to celebrate while you wait. (I know, not much help.)
You won't be waiting alone.

Vet called today to tell us all looks normal. The specialist didn't see what our vet saw, thank goodness!
So, he suspects a soft tissue injury-maybe a sprain, or strain. He suggested resting her for 6 weeks.....HA! How do you rest a 2 year old german shepherd?? I asked if he would Rx some Valium
What can you all recommend as far as healing protocol? Special supplements? Dos and don'ts? Is there a doggie Osteopath we can take her to for an adjustment?
