Betty, the breeder I got the Boerboels from was paranoid about choosing just the right home for the pups from the only two litters she has ever had, but she took 3 pups back, for a myriad of reasons.
I consider her to be a pretty astute person, and she insisted on all prospective owners meeting her pack several times before she made her decision as to who got pups, and did unannounced visits the first year, but three people did a number on her, and she was so upset and angry about the pups being rejected and pretty much ignored by the people she thought she had been so careful about, she won’t breed again.
People can fool even the most savvy and responsible breeders, so whilst I can understand your feeling you didn’t place the dogs with the right people on these occasions, remember the pups you have placed in happy, loving and great homes, who are thriving.
Betty,
That is great news! I'm glad they are both doing well. Whatever happened in their first homes was short lived because of your concern and responsibility to your litters. And they are happy again and ready to be placed in a home they will be cherished. Unfortunately that is not the norm and it is why you shine as a breeder.
At the time you placed them, I'm sure you crossed all your t's and dotted all your i's and backed it up by stepping in when it didn't work. I really can't see what more you could do.
You have produced fantastic dogs. Don't let faulty human nature over shadow that.
Glad things are working out for you Betty.
Selecting the right people for a new puppy will forever be a crap shoot no matter how hard a breeder tries.
The simple fact that you show the responsibility to follow up and bring back pups that don't turn out in the right hands is absolutely wonderful. THEN you work with the dog to straighten out the issues created. That's the most anyone can ask for.

Thanks guys but somehow I think I owe it to the pups to get it right the first time.....
It is obvious that Fox was well loved. I think his owner freaked out at the liability issue. Florida Home owner insurance is hard enough to get dog coverage WITH a clean history. I know someone with a minor bite, who is now paying extra to get someone to cover him, and has had to pay more for a dog only policy. Quite expensive. He also lives in an area where they do not mess around with dog bites, and it looked like Animal Control was going for a dangerous dog hearing.
Furi had been sold after I originally placed her and ended up with this frigging puppy pimp. Luckily someone I know thought she was one of my dogs and had send me the sale brochure and we were able to buy her back with the help of some friends.
When I took her to the vet after picking her up the vet did not believe she was the same dog that she has issued a health cert on at about 8 months old. She was literally skin and bones among other issues.
Fox I can kind of shrug off as things happen. I can understand the liability issue although it's not the way I would of handled it. Furi, when coupled with something that happened when I placed one of my first dogs with someone I trusted has really rocked my world.
But to stop sounding like a negative Nellie, Fox is every bit the awesome dog I thought he was and I have seen nothing questionable. And Furi is doing wonderful, she is recovering well. Very eager to please, very focused on her people, and like her brother has a bit of the joker in her. I am looking for a quiet home for her, we have had a couple of issues with brooms and walking canes, which could explain the injury to her ribs. She recovers well and I have re introduced these things to her but how the heck do you make sure you've covered everything that may look like a big stick?
When I get ready to place her I'm looking for someone close that we can do a transition with or someone that will stay here with us for a while. With the right match, someone that is looking for a heart dog, she will be awesome. She wants so bad to be that dog.
