Candi, thanks again for your proposals. I will certainly consider to buy some of those collars as well as the DVDs, to do things correctly. I guess it will be different for each one of my dogs. So greatful for suggestions of experienced people!

Bob, 6ft of dirt over your eyes!!! What black humour! I'm 4 years older than you, so this would probably catch me earlier. But I have decided to live longer than my dogs and I will stick to it. (accidents excluded of course) Leaving them behind me would mean they'd have to live in the most awful misery.
Fortunate for me my kids will fight over who gets my dogs.
My youngest grandchild, now 9, already asked me when he was about 6-7 if he could have them when I die.
One of my brother's grandkids already asked him if she could have his Corvette when he goes.
Filthy little beasts!

Children are so wonderfully honest and direct. I unfortunately have none. Although we have good friends her, they already have dogs and they don't train or walk them at all. Lots of them leave them stroll about, others keep them in a dark canil the whole day and let those totally frustrated dogs out, when they are not present. I don't want to leave my dogs lead such a life.
You must be a very lucky man with children and grandchildren and dogs. But if I look at the life expectance of a dog, you have a good chance to survive them all. And if you calculate your real life and the time, when you feel to be 40-45 this gives great average!
Good luck to you!

But....but if I outlive all my dogs I'll only wind up with another one.......or two.
They plot against me like that.

Good grieve! Then I see no solution. But at least you will know, that your new pets will be well looked after. Envy you! I'd never want to live without animals if I could.
Who plots against you? Dogs or children, grandchildren?

Candi, why am I great? If we decide to have dogs or cats etc. we have a responsability and should assume it, as well as we can. Besides this - all what we spend for them, time, money, sorrows, sadness if one is ill or dies, we always receive or have recieved so much back from them. Even if we have to cope with an animals death, we must think, that all the time we spent with it was a wonderful present. What will count are the traces they leave behind in us.
But thanks for the praise, I wish I'd really earn it! I think I'm still committing too many mistakes.
