Well I certainly learned something. I have been wondering about working Aries in the heat, he really doesn't enjoy it. He listens but is very sluggish. The only things he will do in drive in the heat is off leash tracking and chasing bunnies, (off leash because now when we train tracking I have a 7mo old baby bomb strapped to my chest so I can't run through the track with him which is what he was used to and made it more exciting).
We are coming into nicer weather now, but next year I will try keeping him in the heat more often. Thanks!

When I go with my dogs to the beach, then I have no problem with engaging them as we can only go into the water and play with them there. Socks and the Lab love to jump over the breakers (if they are not too high). They are already used to the command "jump". Slippie, who is more scared does not jump over the waves yet, but she is not afraid of going for a swim. In the swimmingpool at home she always hesitates to come in with me, although once inside she swims well.

But away from the seaside the problem with the heat remains. As I don't go into ant dog sport I still think I can choose for training the times when they are more active.

Carol and bob, thanks! Funny how different they react. Bob I also do think, that the easy slope to get in, must be one of the reasons. But again, I have the very strong impression, that the extreme heat draws that watershy animal to the sea. Three of mine are mostly black, so their body heats up stronger. That's why they want to go very soon into the shadow, unless they can take a refreshing bath.
Sorry some part of my last post did not come over, no idea why. But it's not so import.
