Just sent something out to the Marines, now I'm doing Butch's folks. I am curious before I go buying anything for the handlers-
are there female military dog handlers over there? In my army days, I just never saw a female handling a military dog.
The answer to this affects what I may/may not put in the box for them, you understand...unless guys dig good grooming products and such.

Many thanks to those of you who have pitched in for the Marine MWD care package. If you want to contribute but haven't done so yet, there's still time! You can order anything from Ed's catalog and inform his staff that it's for the Marine MWD package. They will hold it for shipment to me, where I'll combine it with the stuff that I've received here.
I originally intended to mail this out Tuesday, but will be out of town until Tuesday night. So, you can order from Ed until Tuesday, and he'll mail the package after that. You can also PM me and forward materials to my business address. Keep in mind the time lag-all packages entering my building are scanned by security-this takes another day or so due to backup.
Thanks again to Ed; without his BB, this couldn't have been put together.

A BIG Thank you to Iain and Butch for coordinating these efforts and to Ed and the gang at Leerburg for supplying and forwarding the goods.
I felt doubly good helping our soldiers (two legged and four legged) and supporting the fav discussion board as well!
And of course, thanks to Charlie Snyder, who originally got the ball rolling.

Hey everyone,
We received two care packages in the last two days. Thank you all who have donated toys and treats for the dogs and handlers. They are very much appreciated. For those interested in the group of Airmen who received your care packages, please visit this link:

Again thanks for your support, it has put a smile on everyones face here at the kennels. Everyone in the picture have been here since November while two arrived December 2002. We are all looking forward to coming home.

Well, folks, we're finally getting the USMC MWD package out the door. I thought you'd like a little more info on what your fine efforts have provided.
The list:
2 police leashes (the really good, 2-loop durable kind)
2 Flying squirrels
lots of tennis balls (I know, I know-but they asked for them! )
2 rubber Kong balls
3 Large Kongs
1 leather agitation collar
1 huge bag of biscuits
1 huge bag of pig ears
2 bags of Nutro treats
1 Kong weird bounce ball (looks like an atom)
2 tubes of semi-moist food
1 huge bag of chews
2 Kong 747 tugs (like tennis ball and Jute combined)
1 baseball (handler treat-in addition to other "handler treats" like tobacco, toothbrushes, candy, etc.)
I was also informed by the contact at Camp LeJeune that other folks are sending "Coolie" vests (some gel-filled vest that keeps the dog cool in hot climates-I had no idea there was such a thing).
Anyway, thank you all very VERY much for your generous support. These dogs and their handlers will really appreciate it.

Amendment: make that two 6' leather leashes and two 4' belt leashes; 2 kongs and 1 747-my numbers were crossed last post.
BTW, you've never seen a dog confused as mine when all this stuff was going in the box. He wants to be a war dog now...

RE: Dogs in the war,
Yes, they have dogs teams over there. We have a son over there who keeps us posted on the dog teams.
I know they lost a dog last week. He stepped on a land mine.
The heat bothers them a little, but they are well cared for.
It seems to boost the soldiers spirits to have the dogs there. The dogs are kind of a reminder to the soldiers that there are good things in the world, even in the Persian Gulf.
