The PETA people certainly,in my mind, are entitled to their point of view. I realise that they do border on terroist tactics in the name of some purpose which is sometimes a fluid and transparent distorted agenda(s). Mr.Reese,IMHO,I think that they would not last too long at one of our biker functions. They might throw paint on the leathers but only once. They were in force in NYC. I talked w/2 so-called reprsentatives re: how the various k9 teams were so motivated. It was almost like a firefight after that. They did not know my capacity there and I do believe that they were not sure of their real function either. They offered NO help to the dedicated handlers & k9s at the aide stations, They did critize how awful it was that we would place our k9 partners in danger. My humble advice is that you must know your enemy and keep the powder dry. --Old and in the Way-- Bumper-Phd/Ogp SPD k9 administrator

Here's another low point from a PETA sympathizer, as excerpted by OpinionJournal.com:
Stupidity Watch http://www.upc-online.org/011226vegan_voice_singer.html
Is there intelligent life in solar system Vega? Apparently not, to judge by this letter to the Vegan Voice by one Karen Davis, president of something called United Poultry Concerns:
*** QUOTE ***
While I would not dream of using arguments to diminish the horror of the September 11 attack for thousands of people, I would also suggest that the people who died in the attack did not suffer more terrible deaths than animals in slaughterhouses suffer every day. Moreover, the survivors of the September 11 attack and their loved ones have an array of consolations--patriotism, the satisfaction of U.S. retaliation, religious faith, TV ads calling them heroes, etc--that the chickens, whose lives are continuously painful and miserable, including being condemned to live in human-imposed circumstances that are inimical and alien to them as chickens, do not have available. They suffer raw, without the palliatives. Doubtless the majority, if not every single one, of the people who suffered and/or died as a result of the September 11 attack ate, and if they are now alive continue to eat, chickens. . . .
In conclusion, I think it is speciesist to think that the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center was a greater tragedy than what millions of chickens endured that day and what they endure every day because they cannot defend themselves against the concerted human appetites arrayed against them.
*** END QUOTE ***
Somehow after reading this, we've got a hankering for some McNuggets.

I guess I'm just a dirty "speciesist" then. I hope the members of this board can forgive me.
I have a special place in my heart for PETA, considering their stated 'solution' to dogfighting and dangerous dogs is to euthanize all pit bulls or pit bull type dogs, and eliminate the breed(s). Yes, apparently pit bulls don't fit their definition of 'animals' worthy of ethical treatment.

I have a question for everyone to ponder. Lets say one of these radicals had a rapist murderer come through one of there windows in the middle of the night. In their panic they dialed 911. The dispatcher soothed them and told them don't worry, help is on the way. Meanwhile the rapist positioned their stinky, drunk body over the PETA member, ready to violate them. All of a sudden the next thing they hear is "get on the ground spread eagle and don't move or I'm gonna blow you away". Well, the officer is making the arrest and the suspect resists, next his k-9 partner (through all of his/her "inhumane" training) pounces on the suspect and brings him to submission. Do you think think the moron PETA member might admit to the fact that dog's have purposes in this world and they can be a great asset to HUMANITY?

I don't know how many people on this board are bow hunters, but even if you're not, you may enjoy another PETA stupidity, reported on
http://www.bowsite.org/bowsite/menu/NEWS/GETNEWS.CFM?ID=227
*** QUOTE ***
For safety's sake, hunters in Ohio are required by law to display at least 400 square inches of hunter's blaze orange on their person when in the woods. Capitalizing on the fact that hunters do not usually shoot orange, PETA recently bulk purchased blaze orange vests and have been affixing them to live-trapped deer in Youngstown suburbs. According to PETA spokesperson Katie Reese, a total of 405 vests were successfully put into circulation prior to this week, with additional specimens still being caught and vested.
Youngtown entrepreneur Guy Lockey, of Guy's Outdoors, has spit in the face of PETA by offering rewards for the returned vests this week. Hunters who can successfully bag a vested deer can pay $5 for random and biggest animal awards. As of Tuesday, 308 of the vests had already been recorded as bagged with most of the hunters registering for Mr. Lockey's drawing.
"It's so easy, you can see them coming a mile away" said one first year hunter after checking in his first spike buck.

Lot's of spirited discussion here...
... I have looked at PETA from several different perspectives: animal husbandry & food use (I am a grocer), pet ownership, hunting & fishing, and conservation (Ruffed Grouse Society).
Wherever PETA rears its head it tries to abolish the connection between people and animals. That is their goal. The implications are far reaching - the complete divorce of people & animal contact - with disturbing implications.
You won't protect what you don't care about, and you don't care about somthing you don't know about. If you can not eat it, play with it, work with it, or enjoy it, then you don't know about it.
Bettcha a buck this is their goal.
