Hello All:
I found this link while looking around and it has some very interesting photo's of contrasting colors and types of GSD's. I hope the link works:
VanCamp, your bitework is most likely better then any white GSD out there.
I guess white sheperds would do good in the artic, you would not be able to see them!!!
Hey Robert, just kidding about your bitework maybe being better. "WE ALL KNOW IT IS!!"
I don't have anything against white shepherds, I think they are pretty dogs and surely make nice pets in some cases. . .
But it really irks me when people call them working dogs in order to mislead potential buyers and maintain in their own heads that some mystical connection to the true working GSD still exists. Most of the people that are involved in working breeds, who are show dog breeders, have this vision that their dogs really are what they have read they are in the old books and breed standards. They think that by some magical osmosis the potential is still there, even though they are (on purpose or not) doing everything that is counterproductive for producing dogs with working ability.
It is the same thing that happens with all of the ASS line dogs in American, all of the UK dogs, most of the Canadian dogs, and a majority of the German show dogs.
Either out of ignorance or maliciousness they are propagating the same lie.
How many show line dogs, from ANY of the show lines do you see competing at the top level in any type of dog sport? How many are really capable of real work? There are few enough of the working line dogs that are capable, let alone all of the other bloodlines.
It is fraud, unfair to the people that buy dogs and the dogs themselves.
I do disagree with the fact that there is something genetically wrong with them due to their coloration. I would have to see some convincing numbers. In the old days of the breed there were white GSDs, but they didn't happen on purpose and I'm sure many of them could work well because they were from lines of working dogs, but to artificially breed for a trait like that you are going to mess up the process. . .big time.
Snowcloud White German Shepherds  Check out their new color of red...Good grief those poor dogs....
I see they advertise BLUE dogs, maybe the red is really LIVER (?) which is just another dilution. I don't know, I have to guess since the darn pics won't load on my PC.
