Originally posted by VanCamp Robert: Kevin, was the Groenendael stud the one that won the object guard championship in the 1990s? I don't recall but heck I'd never even seen the object guard ch. until they included it with the PHI and PHII.
Slightly off topic, the object guard seems to be a more practical test than the PHI for the police work to me.

That's great to hear, Jutta!
I still hold out a tiny hope that KNPV will be tried again in America, some of us would like to compete here in it - but it doesn't seem likely.
Having had two (recessive) black Mal pups in litters sired by one of my dogs - who is a grandson of the legendary CLIP - I have a particular interest in black Mals which, unfortunately, have been written out of the breed standard.
As regards Andor v.d. Ijjselvloed he is indeed the ancestor of the “black Malinois” in the KNPV.

Andor v.d. Ijsselvloed: Santa van 't Skepershoes X Astra
born : 23 maart 1973
died : 7 september 1981
NHSB : 666438
owner/trainer : Th.M. Berkers
“In the later days of Tosca I was offered, within my own Club, the thoroughbred Groenendaeler Andor v .d. IJsselvloed.
Together with my brother Jozef I bought, which appeared later, this unique male-dog.
5 x contestants and 3 x National Champion PH2. made this dog with his genetics a very uncommon excellence, who got his recognition not before he died.
In 1981 I said goodbye with Andor in the National Champions Competition.
In 1983 I became National Champion with a direct son of Andor, the cross breed Nero.
Nero and also Boedha (breed by me) from my brother Jozef were both sons of Andor. These two male-dogs have as well as Andor, laid the foundation of the still special successful crossbred Groenendaeler (black Malinois) ,within several training programs.”
THEO BERKERS
Update: The black Mal named Rex ( PH1 ) was bred to a substantial Mal bitch and my club is waiting to see what coat colors will be produced. We're pretty sure about what drives will be produced, hehe.
PM me if anybody wants further info on the litter.
I thought this might contribute towards our general knowledge of the historical facts and genetics regarding the short-haired "Malinois":
SHORT HAIR - OTHER THAN MALINOIS
“In a letter dating from 15th of December 1897 and addressed to Louis Vander Snickt, Louis Huyghebaert (the godfather of the Malinois) wrote: "I should inform you that for every twenty short haired shepherd dogs, you will find approximately one example with black hair. During the operations of the new cadastral revision, I had to visit all the farms of several parishes in the province and each time I have to come to the same conclusion." The black short haired was seen in dog shows until 1914. Practically decimated by the war, the black short hair will reappear around 1926. This variety offers an example of a particularity that a breed carries within itself and that can never be totally eliminated because it is in the genes.”
