AMEN to the dam being important. I think this is highly underated. I remember hearing this about humans once, and it was much easier to tell about the mother's ability because humans a hundred years ago use to have nearly as many kids as come in a litter, and sometimes more, lol. This type of info was easier to chart then.
That doesn't mean we resemble our mother 75%, but if you were one of ten kids, 6 to 7 might resemble the genetic makeup of the mother more often than not. It's harder to tell nowadays considering most families only consist of 2-3 children. I know I mention us, but it's very much the same with all mammals I'd suspect.
Also the main reason I like Ring Sport lines is because I think it shows the dog's ability more than Schutzhund, while in Schutzhund the handler is more of a factor, this is only from what I've heard. Just for the record I'm a fresh fish and I'm not going to make bold statements on the issue all together because I've never competed in either event. This is just my opinion from what I've learned through reading and talking to different people.

Come on now, TWICE as long? I also question the working life of the dog being any less than that of a GSD or Mal. The healthy stud Rotts that I have seen in SchH have been able to title at about the same ages as old, decrepid, GSDs that I have seen.
More telling is the lack of available working stock, and lack of interest of most the departments. Why hunt for a Rott when people are pounding down your doors with GSDs or Mals? (figuratively speaking)
Price may also play a part, I haven't priced Rotts in a long time, but I've seen prices of KNPV PH2 Mals and DSs comin' over from the Netherlands. . .very reasonable.
Anywho, It don't matter much. They all suck compared to the vastly superior German Shepherd Dog. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

All right, so where does this leave me? Does this look like a good breeding for a Schutzhund dog or not?

Not if the information isn't accurate. From what I've read from the other members I'd say most don't think you should. That doesn't mean you have to agree or not. Since several of the Rott members aren't sure, and I can't speak for them then I would ask what kennel they recommended. That's if you were going to take my advice.
Of course anyone that recommends a kennel I'd then pay attention that it wasn't theirs or a friend. Sometimes that doesn't matter but testimonials do. Does this sound any good or help?

Ouch VC.... that hurt!! oh wait, not really, since us Rottweiler people are not pain sensitive!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
OK, so maybe twice as long is a stretch, I clearly wasn't citing empirical data, just off-the-cuff theory.. but I think my point came across... It really does more to do with money than ability.. oh and not to mention public opinion..
for some horrible reason, the GSD is accepted as being a good dog... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
but seriously, Rotties do "typically" have a shorter lifespan, and working lifespan.. kinda like comparing NFL players to MLB players <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> those linebackers can't play for as long as those wussy little infielders!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
