That article on Nordlicht,'er whatever, is great. I'm going to print it out and read it at our next club meeting.
I'll be lucky to get out of there alive. . .

American shepherds are a very interesting bunch. Beth also posted something on the German shepherd ring board about wanting to breed her female to a coated male.
At least the male in question was part German. http://www.homestead.com/southpawpetcare/boone.html

He has such a lovely, dark face! Want to send him to Texas?? When I breed my bitch, Seren, I should probably breed her to a coat, since she is lacking ANY coat gene at all , much less a long-coat gene! Her hair is about 1/2 inch long AFTER she's grown it in. When she's blown coat she looks NEKKED!

She really should not breed Seren at all since her parents were full brother and sister. The American dogs are so in-bred it is really sad and pathetic really. Take my old girl for example. The kindest thing I did was to spay her as most of her lines ALL stop at GV Ch Lance of Fran-Jo. They bred Lance to his own daughters!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Learning about American dogs reminds me of trying sushi for the first time. Well, somebody out there must like it an awful lot more than I do (no offense to anyone that likes sushi).
This has been an interesting topic. Thank you for the education in the different world of dogs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> (I figured out why everyone at handling classes liked my dog so much)

I have an awsome stud dog for those of you looking for one...
"CH. Sir Lance O Lot of Victoria's Secret wind chimes"
With a name like that in his pedigree your dog can't help but turn out to be tough!!!
Kind of like that song "A boy named Sue" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, they do have some really dumb names for show dogs. I would much prefer to name my dogs a nice name that any person would not be ashamed to tell anyone. I remember at the trial I was at, people got wind of what my girl's name is and started singing the famous song. I swear her breeder named her this, I had no choice in the matter -- Janry's Rockin Robin. *blech* *gag* I got to name Stoney, his registered name is Janry's Red Stone of Norstar. My new dog, I am going to name her Sasha.

OK, guys, sorry to stir things up so much! I already agreed that the German working lines were your best bet if you want a SERIOUS working dog, so no need to beat a dead horse about that! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Just trying to point out that not ALL American dogs are crippled and/or mentally retarded spooks, that's all.
And, YES, I was wrong about Mystique being sable! I've made my mistake for the year, so at least I am safe for a while...
And Lauren, how long did you spend searching for that "quote" about breeding to a coat? Maybe you didn't take it the way I meant it, but it was a JOKE! Just a comment about how short a coat Seren has... It's great when it comes to drying her off, but not so good for comformation showing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> They like the plush coat better.
Well, now that everyone has had a chance to bash my breeding ethics and knowledge, I'll leave this topic alone. I know there is lots I can learn from this group about many subjects, but you can be sure from the responses you gave, I will think long and hard before making any statement/opinions that don't agree with "the one, true way" that is espoused on this board. Too bad that open discussion and evaluation of differing opinions are not encouraged here.
Y'all have a great day!

I had the quote in my inbox, sent to me by a friend who does not believe that something so serious as breeding dogs should ever be joked about.
I hope you take Kelly's advice.
