Ok,
I couldn't help it I had to write this guy and ask what was up with this article.... Here are the e-mails.
>ME>I think you should take a look at this thread about your artical and give some insite.
http:/
/www.leerburg.com/cgi-bin/UBB/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=104;t=000004
Him> OK, I went to the site. So? There wasn't anything I haven't heard before. In my experience, the overwhelming hatred, as is obvious to see from the very site you sent me to, comes from those who love the German bred dogs, and love the aggression, attack work, and bravado about how fearless and tough their dogs are. Sure seems to me like it all goes together, aggressive people and their aggressive dogs. Yet, even in this site there were balanced comments and comments that clearly point out that there is room enough in this great breed for each of us to hve what we want. The dogs of all types are fine, it's the people who suck.
Me>Well said Robert!
I had a feeling that article did not represent your views completely that is why I wanted you to have a chance to comment. There are a few things in that article I don't agree with, but I'm not going to try and "tell you how it is" you bieleve what you believe and that's great! And your right, there is enough room for us all.
Can I post your e-mail to that forum?
Lonny
Him> Sure Lonny, go ahead and post, although at this stage the last thing I want is to get into a verbal war with some arrogant, asinine people about their take on dogs. If I wanted a German bred German Shepherd I would buy from them, but it is clearly not what I want. I want a dog that is capable of great loyality, a dog that loves me, one with a soft look in its eye, and with enough mental soundness to be there when necessary, yet still manageable and easy to live with. Beyond that I want a dog that is beautiful, and oh how our American dogs excell at that. I truly love the beauty we have created in this breed, and may it live forever. Now that we have achieved this beauty which in some case it near perfection, it is high time we get to work on improving mental soundness. I believe the leadership is trying to move in this direction with all the working titles being offered by the GSDC of Am, a move which I can only applaud.
In so far as I'm aware, the American breeders just want to be left alone to pursure their dream of what they think the American bred German Shepherd should be. I don't hear American breeders lamenting, and nashing their teeth over the plight of the German bred dog. On the other hand what we do sure seems to bother the German breeders. "Methinks she doth protest too much."
Post them both, and thanks to you for contacting me.
<END>
It is really a shame that just a few bad dog owners "aggressive people and their aggressive dogs" ruin it for all of us, because I'm sure this is a common thought amung AMR breeders and show dog fanciers alike and the public at large. I know for a fact I am not an aggressive person with little man syndrome and I'm sure a lot of you are doing what you love for the fun and togetherness between you and your dogs.
I think a lot of the problem is people can't just talk anymore...or respect others for what they are doing, like working dog folks do what they do because they love their dogs, and it is clear that Show people are the same way! It's just a shame that both sides can't ban togther to weed out crappy breeders like the one that bred that poor bitch in the picture there because it's the dogs that pay the price not us.

C'mon, none us believe that this was a picture of the winning bitch, right? I would be willing to bet that every single one of the working dogs owned by the people visiting this website have dogs that would fit the "standard" better than this dog. The working (and German Show) GSD's that I have seen since becoming interested in Schutzhund have ALL looked like healthy athletic dogs. This dog is a wreck!
So, what is the purpose of this "News Alert"? It is obvious that this person is insecure about the criticisms levelled at American GSD's. That he would stoop to such a low level shows you just how insecure he is. It seems like a desperate attempt to vindicate the efforts of American GSD breeders. It's really quite pathetic.

Wow, I have to say that it sounds to me like the person who wrote this article is nothing more than a sore loser who feels that they need to make up stories to explain why their dog didn't win.
Absolutely pathetic. This is a crock.

Karmen, are you married? lol <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
These people know zero about what a real working dog is and what aggression is. Everything that was said about loyal, soft eyes, companion, etc. is even more true of a working line dog. Add to that drive, health, temperament/nerve/soundness/stability, and you have a good working line GSD.
Lame-o-rama, ASS breeders/fanciers don't know dick about working dogs, real training, or what temperament is and should be. Obviously, from the article in the link.
Lonny don't go weak on me man, those animals are an abomination of the GSD. To compare the ASS to German show lines, let alone working lines, is -F-ed up. The comment posted that these people are attempting to put more emphasis on working character, temperament, and nerve is a total joke. The only reason these folks talk about that suff is because a dogs temerament is something that is hyped up now by trainers and breeders that want to help out potential pet buyers. That is what people want to hear. These wackos don't care about anything other than the looks of the dog. That is first on their list of breeding requirements, and last.
And that little piece about "there when I need him", yeah your ASS will be there. For the two seconds it takes the bad guy to decide to stand up to the dog, then it will be like watching the grey hounds racing away from the starting gates. "Bye, bye, YOU deal with that guy, I'm outa here. . ."
I don't have a problem with these buttplugs owning, breeding, or loving their dogs. I just don't like to see them lie about other things. Like that their ASS is what Max hand in mind, or that their dogs can do real K9 work, or that they have better temperaments than the working lines, or that all of us working dog types are aggressive people that want mean aggressive dogs. They are selling that line to most of America via the AKC. That is what brings out the anger in most of us. The lies, misinformation, partial truths, and total bullshit that the ASS fanciers spread. Perfect example is that article and the persons e-mail response. If they would just change the name of the animal and re-register all of those types of shepherd dogs in their own new show class then I would be happy. They could market their dogs as a companion breed like the Poodle, English Bulldog, Bichon Frise, whatever. Just don't try to fool people into thinking that their dogs are German Shepherd Dogs or working/utility dogs. They are not, most can't even pass a basic herding instinct test. And we all know that the confirmation of those animals is not designed for stamina or work.
You would think people could get a clue. Take the last Westmonster kennel show on TV. That whole thing about the dogs that worked the WTC. Did any one of those GSDs look anything like the animal that was shown as a GSD? Nope, could that dog that was shown do the work that those real GSDs could do. I doubt it. I'd bet the farm against it. The whole farm. . .

In my humble opinion, the American German Shepherd is an endangered species. In a few short decades, we won't have to worry about them anymore. If you want to check it out, pick up the latest copy of Dog World magazine and see exactely how many ads there are for American GSDS versus German line GSDs.

One thing that seems to be happening in most of the working breeds is that the focus of the fancy is turning back to the BALANCED working temperament. As a result many new owners are looking for dogs with some working history. That is leaving many of the people that have the non-working, freaky, spooky dogs out in the cold. The reason for this is that people are tired of the bad temperaments. It is occuring in the GSD, Dobe, Rott, Giant, and the Bouv. It is also part of the reason for the "popularity" in some of the "rare" breed working dogs. It is also why in the rare breeds there are starting to be some organizations that require temperament testing that requires a working temperament for the highest level of Conformation Champioships. There are also forgien regestries that require a working title for a championship on a dog.
And that picture is just reversed, and a poor representative of the breed in my opinion. The front legs are longer than the back. Why is that?
