The problem which will never ever go away...is the human equation.
People are subjective. When you look at conformation, people have different views. When you look at SchH people have different views. Van Camp and myself like the hard headed dominant SOB. Not everyone does. (Sorry didn't mean to speak for you Van Camp, however, feel free to correct me if I am wrong).
Also, some people think they like that kind of dog, but don't have the moxy or know how to handle that type. So there is disparity.
No matter how many people try it. You will not get the majority back together. It has happened in every breed. I know, I know a blanket statement however, I dare ya to prove me wrong.

Todd, preach on brother. . .
Earthdog a good example is the change we are now seeing in the JRT. Popularity, conformation breeding, lack of a working requirement for breeding, etc, etc, etc. . .
The working ability of these dogs is creeping away in most of the lines. People don't want the hard to live with little killer. They want My Dog Skip, and that little bastard on that one TV show with Dr. Krain. There are many similarities.

Thought I'd share this with you regarding a dream dog. My first knowledge of a GSD was in the late fifties on the Isle of Anglesey here in the U.K.My grandparents had a farm there and they had a GSD named Jim. In those days they were called Alsatians as after the war anything with German in the name was taboo. (They reverted to being called GSD's in 1971) Jim was very different to the dogs you see today he was much taller and nice and lean. Anyhow us kids would be out playing all day and nobody worried as they knew Jim was with us. When my grandmother died Jim was often to be seen at the cemetery sat next to her grave - nobody had any idea how he knew where she was. He was a special dog but at the time I was too young and thought all dogs were like that!!!
Now at the age of 50 I have got my own GSD and as you know the breed characteristics have not changed. These dogs are still dream dogs in my book

VanCamp in 1996? when AKC recognized the JRT, the smaller (under 12 in) were dropped from their standards. These smaller (not short legged) dogs are the better size for hunting in the States because of the smaller earths over here. My Border terriers are from Imported stock because the Akc show people want a fired up terrier in the ring and the true Border temperment is very calm around other dogs. I hope the working terrier people will stick to their guns like working GSD people. Right now we still have some damn good looking working dogs but for how long?

Believe it or not,the Jrt on Fraizer is a great little dog and a typical JRT. He was placed for adoption 3-4 times until his current ownner got him. He was to much dog for the first few owners.

I know but the behavior of the dog on the show is NOT A-typical of the breed. My point. . .

Gwen. I have an English import, Mill John's Evita, call name Tina. I was told she is typical of British GSDs. I hope not, although prey drive to an extreme, she is not very commited to her man work, particularly at a distance. She is an Uran granddaughter, perhaps its the high lines in her that are the trouble.
Here's another hypothetical:
Given the choice between breeding to Timmy or Troll v.b. Nachtbarschaft, which would you choose and why?

I'd breed to Troll...Why?...The dogs iv'e seen from Troll seem to be more stable than the ones iv'e seen from Timmy. Timmy had shorter nerves than Troll and he seemed to produces this trait in his puppies, just my opinion..anyone else?. I saw a Timmy son last week in Germany, he was very old, but had the usually Timmy qualities. Has anyone else seen anything different?...Oh yeah on the JRT...My wifes has one thats titled in Schutzhund and he was horrible to live with when she first got him.The kind of dog that ends up in a shelter because the average person wouldn't be able to handle him, but he is a SUPER working dog.
