I like sort of unusual names and I had a whole list of names for my puppy (getting in February.) Here are the male names I like: Heratio, Apollo, Gilligan, Houston, Boris, Axel, Nemesis, Zorro, Othello, Etzel, Achilles, Magnum, Magellan, Ulysses, Horace, and Etzel. Well, as you can see, I have put quite a bit of thought into naming my pup as well. I was originally going to get a male but then I decided to get a female. Had I gotten the male I was going to name him Magnum, I think, or else Apollo. Probably Magnum. Maybe it's a good thing I'm getting the female. I am naming her Troi. (And now you are all thinking, gee, I'm glad she doesn't name my dog... hee hee) Jennie

Considering your other post about Schutzhund and protection, what type of lines are you getting a puppy from?

OK here we go. Brix was up there. I did a poll on the names and these got the highest marks or were among the names and the others are of my liking.
OK, here we go. This is the set of names others who have seen him remcommend, from you guys here (all were good names let me add) or I came up with.
brix
lincoln
general
Scooter
Sprocket (most of the motorcycle buddies were partial to part or makes of bikes)
Max ( too common if you ask me)
Fred
Bob
Gonzo
Bullfrog or Froggo
Tyr
Biscuit
Butch
Kegger
Dego
and E.T
So this is the narrowed down version of the names.
By tomorrow I should have a name for this guy, he NEEDS one bad... Names are the hardest thing for me to give.
Dego, Brix, Bullfrog (lol), Sprocket, and E.T.
There are issues with a few of them though. Bullfrog many seem to think is a bit much, haha, but the one Brix. Obviously you see the spelling and you see it the way it is spelled. I often let the local police K9 officers and a few other officers who have working dogs check him out. But when they ask his name once I named him I think they'll misinterpret his name. They may think I am calling him "Bricks" as in drugs or may associate it in that manner. Or others who hear his name may think negatively. What's your take on this? Yea, it may be a bit far fetched but its something I thought of.
So now what do you say? Froggo or bullfrog? lol... I sort of like E.T. too. Its easy to say as it sort of flows and he is an extra terrestrial. Hes basically an extra land creature in my house so that makes him a terrestril creature which is extra here...haha, I guess. I am rambling.
So what do you think....

As long as you're concerned about phonetics, scratch "dego" -- my italian neighbors would have a thing or two to say. Reminds me of my friend who moved to NM with her dog, "Dingo". Neighbors were all over her when she stood on the porch yelling "Gringo"!
It's a problem with foreign names. Some look so cool in print and then when you start imagining yelling them down the street they mutate into something entirely different. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
My bitch, "Tig" started as "Targa", which is a name I still really like, it just wasn't hers. I had a great dog named "Bob", also "Austin, Rocket, Lucky (partial registered name was "natural seven"), Sarge, Aiko, Yuri, Tom, Farad (the most high-energy name ever), Zaydoc, and Saul".
Yep, I like people names. The whippet, "Farad", is still around. That's my personal favorite.

It's definitely a good idea to be careful about names when it comes to foreign languages. For instance, I'm not sure why someone would choose the name Hodenhof for their GSD kennel, being that it means something like "testicle farm."
But then, maybe it's just a way of bragging about how "ballsy" their dogs are!

Sue, I had originally heard that the Hodenhof name originated with a couple whose names were Holly and Dennis (something-or-other), and they chose it as a combination of the first syllables of their names without any knowledge of German (other than the fact that "hof" means farm, and is often used to denote a kennel), to the great amusement of the German SV judge who was the first to encounter their dog in a competition. (The punchline of the story is: "I haff only vun qvestion: vy is it you haff named your dok Sammy of ze Testicle Farm?")
That may be apocryphal, but it's a great story, and as you noted, there is a Hodenhof kennel.
