Andy, that dogbitelaw site is just utter trash put up by an unethical ambulance chaser out trying to make a buck ( which I think everyone here realizes ). Those guys manipulate figures to make whatever breed they're suing look bad.
Sites like that answer the question to the classic joke:
That may or may not be true, but I'll take your word for it.
I have however read CDC qoutes which refute the accuracy of their statistics, which I believe is the reason they stopped tracking DBRF's after 1998. Let me find the link.
Statistics are great, meaningful statistics must be completely explained, all qualifiers of the study and the "ground zero" position by which to evaluate the results. As many here have already explained statistics are very easily manipulated to support or discredit the evaluators position. But in my final assessment to help a breed already in trouble, if my pit attacks, injurs or fataly wounds another animal or person...PUT MY DOG DOWN, prosecute me to the fullest extent of the letter and spirit of the law, just be sure this procedure is followed for every other dog that does the same no matter what breed it is. If we as a society can grasp this concept, the effectiveness, real or perceived, of laws that try an eliminate dangerous dogs by eliminating the breed will not be perpetuated because the real problem will be well on the way to being solved.
