I looked at the videos and I wasn't impressed with the decoy work it was very prey inducing, and I didn't really see good solid pressure being put on the dogs from a decoy stand point. For instance my pup Neeka goes bananas on shake jugs, because she was imprinted with them, and they really invoke prey in her, so using them vigorously with her during the bite, will help her, not put pressure on her. Experienced decoys knows ways of putting pressure on dogs and IMO that isn't one of them but it looks good. Not saying it isn't ok to use them, I do, but its how you use them. Also, I don't know this guy but I do question someone who uses a video clip on their professional website, that shows a training partner or client who is holding a pitbull on a leash with a stocking on his head, and using his thighs as a waistband for his trousers. The decoy and handler doing the muzzle work didn't look like they were trained that well in doing muzzle work. Though I have to say I really like that little western studio stage set up to train at. Now my understanding is Jerry is a great trainer(whether people apply his training right is up to them), I'll be meeting him and hopefully get the opportunity to train with him since I'm moving about 20min from him.

Personally I thought that video showed great control. Most of the gangbangers in my hood can only use one hand cause the other has to hold their pants up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Kristen - your little guy sure is a cutie!!
Just a question for you and the others - how many of your waking hours are spent with your pups? My two are 5 months old now. I agree with Ed that they should never have the run of the house and, in fact, they have never seen anything inside but the kitchen and the sun room. Since I work all day, they are crated for about 10 hours (I come home at lunchtime and let them out). They are then crated again overnight. Now I find myself spending ALL of my evening hours in the kitchen and sun room (except for being outside) just to be with them. I don't want to let them alone and I don't want to put them back in the crate. Is anyone else this nuts?

Both my husband and I work, so I got a kennel (it's 7.5ft X 13ft X 6ft) from Tractor Supply Co. to keep him in outside so he isn't cooped up in a crate all day. So far, he stays outside in that kennel during the day when we're not home, and at night. I wanted to crate him at night, but that's not happened yet. When I get home around 5:30pm, I let my other dog outside to potty and wander around for a few minutes. Then, I put her back inside, put the cats in the basement, change clothes, and let out the little monster. I play with him for oh, about 30 minutes or so outside, and let him run off some energy (we run laps around the house lol). Then I put my other dog in my bedroom and shut the door, and let Jak inside for a few hours. He gets the run of the living room, hallway, and kitchen, but I close the two bedroom doors and bathroom door. I don't leave him alone inside. At around 8:00pm, I put him back outside in the kennel, feed him if I haven't already (I don't feed at certain times), and let the cats upstairs and Gypsy back out of the bedroom until hubby and I go to bed around 10:00. The cats go back downstairs at night, and Gypsy keeps the run of the house while we're asleep. My goal is for Jak to be able to be loose in the house eventually, even if it's only during the night and we have to leave him outside (we're working on fencing in the yard) during the day. But for now, that's our routine.

Hi Kristen, congrats on your new pup, i don't know what kind of neighborhood you live in, but aren't you concerned about someone stealing your dog? sounds like they would only need boltcutters and a leash, and 60 seconds later, they're the new proud owners of a nice gsd puppie, also, if your goal is to be a house dog, why not bring him up in the house?you posted that he had a barking problem in his crate, won't it help him to learn to live in his crate if you leave him in there during the day? , i remember a couple of threads on this site of adult dogs being taken, nevermind a puppie, just curious, good luck,
