Thanks all,
I'm looking into the feed that was mentioned in your threads. Will let you'll know how it works out.
Unfortunately, I have never heard of that place. The local stores around here are places like Kroger, Farmer Jack, and Ashcraft's. None of these places sell chicken backs and necks or any other type of meat/bone that is affordable or practical for the dogs. Any they won't order it or save it either.
I know that kibble is not ideal and that raw is, for the most part, better, but Blackwood truely is a good food. My dogs are incredibly healthy, energetic, and content on this diet.
I can't help myself! I have to mention this about Raw food purchased from a butcher or wherever.
What you need to do is find Non Medicated, Hormone Free, Free Range, meat sources. Why you ask? Well most meat we eat nowadays is medicated and shot up with hormones and fed on a excellent diet containing their brothers and sisters.
While this is fine for say you and I, it is not so good for your dog. The reason is your dog eats a 75% meat diet every day for life as we eat 2% give or take. A 75% diet with all that crap is not as good as you might think....these additives and stuff will have a negitive effect on your dog just as injecting steriods in humans for bodybuilding and such has.... Think organic!
BTW it would not hurt to use organinc veggies, no pesticide's.
Just a thought!
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
Kali, if I couldn't find chicken backs so easily I'd probably be feeding Blackwood too. In fact, my family doesn't like the food because it makes Auster feel TOO good. Hopefully I can get them to feed the raw diet even though it makes her feel like life is worth living .
The Kroger where I used to live sells tubs of frozen pork chitterlings (sp) ?
