Hmm... I would totally agree if his dog were fully obedience trained and had some foundation in protection training. But without having a guard/watch/bark/attack command, what should he have done?
A dog with no protection training should have just stayed in his down; during protection training you would never train an attack command to be used on another dog. I will say that his dog’s willingness to defend his handler is a good trait it is just misdirected and unfocused. He was in a training class, giving a correction for breaking a stay to a 3 year old GSD is simply part of the process. It would be unfair to expect a dog without a lot of training to not break in this situation but it would be a shame for the dog not to learn anything from the situation that is after all why they are at class.
