Hi Ted, If your walking around with a large well trained dog I seriously doubt the average meth head is going to chance it. If you're a rich executive/star/pol you've probably have already hired a staff to watch your backside.
I've been thinkig of that myself. I don't like people petting my dog, and he doesn't either. I hope that would do the trick. Either that or a t-shirt that says "Keep your paws off me. My Mom bites."
I love the padded harness vest from Leerburg, it's the nicest looking one in my opinion, my boy has "IN TRAINING" on both sides and "WORKING DOG DO NOT PET" on the top... I've offered it before so I'll offer it again, if you want pics - send me a PM with your email address n I'll send you pics of him in his vest.
The only downside to the vest that I've found, is that if you bring your dog around dog lovers, you're gonna have people that are gonna ask you what you're training for - I'm not crazy about telling people "to bite your ass when you assault me", so I make up something nice n PC like SAR... they don't need to know that I really mean ASR right? Then you have the people that think that because you told your dog to "sit", that he suddenly "stopped working" so think it's OK to pet him after he sat down.
It usually keeps people from touching your dog, but there's a few other irritations that you have to deal with like that - I find that people who would ordinarily call over accross the street "nice lookin dog" or some other comment of that nature to which you can just smile n say "thanks", will now come over and ask you questions about your dog instead... but at least they don't touch your dog, but I have a hard time trying to get my dog to obey me while there's people distracting ME (let alone my dog) and making me feel cruel for jerking my dog's prong collar for not sitting when I stopped walking
I wish my dog wasn't friendly just so I didn't have to lie when people ask if he's friendly... technically I don't lie, I tell em "sometimes", which usually keeps them from touching him.
I know, I know, I'm just all yappety yap this morning (afternoon?) ain't I? I think it was $7 or $8 per additional patch to get additional patches on the vest, I don't recall exactly.
Mike, I'll PM you my email. Send me the pics. Lucky for me (or not?) my dog never accidentally looks friendly. He's Mr. Serious 24/7 when there's anyone else around. And I've never been accused of lookin' too approachable myself but the vest can't hurt. If they ask, say you're not at liberty to discuss it.
See Mike, that seems reasonable to me. I'll decide what's worth alerting for. Is there a flaw in this? This would mean no alert based on someone contacting me. Alert when I say to.I'd love to see some ohotos of these vests. I have no idea what they are...
*Edit* email address removed.
Moderator note:
Ted, if you would, it'd be best to provide your email to people via a PM. There are some mental cases that cyber stalk forums, and I just recently had a poster ask me to remove things from her posts due to that very reason.
Better safe than sorry - and this message applies to everybody.
Thanks for that Will! So where do I see the pics of Ed's vests?
Ted
Ted, I sent you email with the pics... Jenni I didn't get your email address, did you PM me or hit the wrong button again?
