So good to talk to you tonight. Wow a dog woman who likes football and doesnt mind a hard correction. I am in lub ; to bad I heard rug rats running around in the background, probably the husband to . Here I was up to 2G's$ in the doggie money and I thought I was doing good ; still forget I am little money Glad to see you weighed in on this thread; need more international flavor on this board. Excuse Jeff, he had to choose between, paying rent, or his meds and he obviously choose the former.
Stay away from the Indianapolis night life, and you might get past the little money.
Brad,
I also enjoyed talking to you. Rug rats, yes. Hubby, not anymore . As I have said before... I find that I like my dogs more than I like most people. Hard dogs can take hard corrections, as long as they are fair and warranted.
You don't have to make excuses for Jeff, his kind are generally pretty harmless.... besides I have puppies that bite harder than he does ! (j.k. Jeff

I have owned and loved two GSDs and two Dobermans. They were not trained as protection or working dogs. The temperment of the GSDs were typical of American "Hobby Bred" dogs. They were great companions and grew up with my kids as house dogs. They were both soft dogs with low-medium prey drive. They kept the bad guys away because they would bark. What was strange was that most people feared them, but the real danger was our highly agressive and protective Australian Shepard.
The dobes are a longer story. My first Dobe was a rescue female named Raja. Raja needed no training to be protective. Once she accepted me as her owner, she was an obedient absolutely wonderful companion. A once in a lifetime dog. Raja worked with me doing field biology down in Georgia and was almost telepathic in understanding what I wanted. She aborted an attempted robbery of our house and managed to bite the SOB on his leg and butt at least twice and held him in absolute fear until the cops came. I bred her once and my mother took one of her pups who became her favorite dog.
As Ed says "That Said" both died young (8 and 7 years) with brain tumors. Dobes have a lot of "neurological problems" and heart problems. Raja's line had a lot of neuro problems and I probably should not have bred her (I was young and stupid about dog breeding). But then both she and her daughter (Topaz) would not have been on this earth for me to share and Love. The loss of these two dogs and the reason is why I havn't had another although I absolutely love the breed. You have to see a Dobe therapy dog who seems to magically avoid IVs and Wires etc with the grace of a ballerina to know what I mean.
Talk to Cindy at Leerburg, she also had a "Once in a Lifetime" Dobe but doesn't have them now.
The challenge is out there to the Doberman breeders, get us dogs with the great temperment and intelligence but with a longer life expectancy.
I dunno....my old dobie-girl is going to be ten years old soon and is a live and kickin' with sharp, hard, pearly whites
