... I wouldn't say he's an advocate or very informed on the subject, but he wouldn't knock someone that had done research and was taking an informed approach. Would that still be a candidate? He also didn't flame me for wanting to take a minimal vaccine approach.
I am in the process of writing a section for Leerburg's website on raw feeding and other health issues I feel strongly about..... One of the biggest obstacles in the way of successful raw feeding is the vet you have access to for your dogs. .... I would like to start a list of holistic, homeopathic and conventional vets that support raw feeding. Even vets that don't push raw feeding but have enough respect for their clients to NOT use scare tactics to bully them into stopping deserve a spot on my list. ....
This (and the list) is at

I betcha Turbo was happy to come home! How is he doing? Tired?

Cool, I'll stick him on there.
Turbo was very happy to come home. I stayed home from work and we stayed on the couch most of the day. I've been feeding him small amounts every hour or so. So far I can only get him to drink "puppy-ade" (boiled chicken water), but thats fine with me as long as he's drinking. Better poops with no blood and even a tail wag every now and then. Earlier today I was letting him roam the backyard about 50 yards away. He was smelling something intently and he's been so hungry I was afraid he might eat it so I told him to "come" and he turned around and ran back perfectly. Of course we went back inside and had something good to eat Good boy!

More helpful to me than they will ever know. Thanks so much again for your advice on telling me to go to the vet. Getting there so quick really made this a non-event compared to what it would have been had I waited 'til the next morning.

Michael, maybe Bravo is worth knowing about for you. It's a brand of raw food diet. Go on their website:
http://www.bravorawdiet.com
I give my dog Bravo ground rabbit (with the bones ground in there), ground salmon, ground buffalo, ground venison, ground ostrich, etc. I'm not all knowing like Connie but my dog has allergies so I was forced to search for alternative foods for him. I just added Bravo to his menu 2 weeks ago. He really loves it. The fact that the food is ground is probably something that would be very helpful for your dog now. Since your dog has just experienced a medical "condition" if you will, I hope others can comment on Bravo. I don't know whether to suggest it's a good choice of dog food for you right now but maybe, after reading about it, you can decide for yourself if it's safe for your JR.

Judy,
I've seen the Bravo diet mentioned here and I'm very interested in trying it. I really want to feed a raw diet but just feel a little too nervous to start cold turkey. Bravo seems like a good way to ease into it.
Are the ground bones in Bravo just as good for your dog nutritionally as the whole bones you give them feeding raw?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
True

I feed my 5 month old pup Bravo most of the time. He has been on it since he was 7 weeks old & was weaned onto the Bravo ground turkey a couple of weeks before that by the breeder friend of mine that is a Bravo distributor. My female's food I prepare but sometimes she gets that as well. The 'blends' have the veggies (differ according to the meat base) organ meat & muscle meat with ground bone in with it. Comes in 1, 2, & 5 lb frozen logs. My pup is a terrible gulper & can't be trusted yet with anything other than chicken necks, backs or turkey necks, & marrow bones as rec bones for him. He will swallow a wing whole or try to...so I have been waiting to give him those. I have used Bravo on & off & sometimes when traveling for the last 3+ years & like it. I do also still supplement with Salmon oil, E & other supplements regardless of whether I feed Bravo or my own raw diet. Check out their site & see what you think. As I have a friend that is a distributor & I get better prices than regular retail store prices & can't quote prices to you, but it works to be almost the same as if I make my own raw diet.
Edited to add....I also feed chicken frames, backs, marrow bones etc in addition to Bravo & as recreational bones for my dogs. When I do, I add some additional muscle meat to their next meal to keep the meat/bone ratio intact.

Thanks Judy. The only thing that I don't like about feeding only THK is not having the variety. I know I can still add different stuff to the THK, but I really enjoyed putting together meals for him. It was fun to watch him investigate a new meat or figure out how to eat a new bone. You wouldn't think buffalo would smell that much different than beef, but if you ask Turbo it does. The Bravo sounds like it would be a welcome addition. I wish I would have seen it before, they have a bunch of stuff. I was going to call a holistic vet today to get a consult, but was a little discouraged to do anything when I balanced my checkbook from this weekend. I'll call tomorrow and see how much a consult will cost, but may have to postpone for a while.
