either one, Sandy...I just wonder if he gets confused on who to listen to...Brenna does sometimes with my kids and me.
glad to know he's enjoying himself so much...Brenna can't wait for us to play with her..she gets in trouble just to get us to play with her sometimes...she doesn't really have an "off" switch
Yeah, I hear you with the no off switch. Where's an icon for "exhausted".
As far your question about working with someone else, in the bitework part of the training, he doesn't have to listen to anyone since right now it's just praise that he gets, no commands. The trainer is just building his prey drive with the sleeve on a rope (no words spoken by him), my son says "pas auf" once so Lear can get used to that command when the sleeve begins to be moved around and then when he gets the sleeve he gets praised by my son and/or me.
The first time the trainer took the leash to teach Lear the heel and started walking him off away from us, Lear must have thought he was taking him away cause he threw himself down on the ground and resisted with everything he had, pulling and rolling around. I felt so bad. So in that instance, he didn't want to be handled by the trainer. But in the 2nd session he went "somewhat" willingly cause he knows he's not being taken and the trainer gives me the leash after one short walk so I can do the heel with him.
Only thing is now I'm teaching the heel another way at home, with treats, which isn't done when with the trainer. I do not want to teach the heel by compulsion, although it only took 2 sessions for Lear to learn to heel that way. I don't like it though. So I'm starting from scratch at home. I want him to be as happy heeling as he is to do any other command I've taught him. The compulsion did NOT bring out that "happy to work" look.
You can literally see Lear trying to work through the confusion of switching training methods. The confusion of (seemingly) "I already know the fuss, what is this very small step we're taking?" But I know I'm doing the right thing by him.
