I wish I could take you all out to dinner to thank you for your help! If you're ever on Cape Cod, let me know!
Carol...how much yogurt should I give? With every meal or just once a day?
I think I'll keep him on the boiled diet for the rest of today. Maybe tomorrow I'll give him...what, half of a chicken back for one meal and the boiled diet for the other? See how he does?
The chicken that I've been boiling for him has been fat-free (in case of possible pancreatitis). I want to gradually start building that up so I don't shock his system again. He's been on a fat-free diet for a couple of days now.
And as for organ meat for the Corgi, I have the giblets that came with the Cornish Game hen. What do you think of those? They're small...would they be a good start?

You can add plain yogurt as a probiotic for now. That would be okay for the corgi also. Don't forget to keep a can of pumpkin on hand also.
If Carbons poop was formed and normal, then impaction is LOW on the scale, if not non-existent.
I used to worry about that also.
Keep up the good work Amber. Your doing fine....
I personally would not mix the boiled and raw, but you can start weaning him back on raw by feeding him small amounts seperate from his "cooked" meal. And then you watch him for any changes, like the runs and vomiting.
I would switch him over the course of 4 or 5 days, and the 6th day would be all raw.
Hope that makes sense......
Ditto.
And as Alice said, don't be in a hurry to get him back on his real food. The body usually heals itself from a stomach surprise/revolt, if we give it time and space to do it. His is obviously doing it just fine. He has declared that sudden fat influxes don't work well for him, and I would heed that.
When he is back on his whole diet (with skinned meat for a while), the Omega 3s in the fish oil will soothe any leftover inflammation too.
JMO. I am very happy that he is doing so well.

To be honest, I just use a normal tablespoon (the bigger one), and put a dollop or two on their food once a day or every other day. I would start out with one. Someone may step in and give you an amount, but I don't measure anymore. I weigh my meat sometimes just to be sure, but other than that it is eyeball city.....

Amber, how about trying the yogurt as a special treat or dessert - perhaps after a short training session or last thing at night before settling down. Scoop some in a bowl/plate and have him sit with you. Give it to him from a spoon – he’ll soon learn to “eat” it rather than lick the spoon. I do it with my boys and it just seems like a special 'together' time for us. Just a thought.
P.S. Glad to hear things are 'going' much better.

Also, if it helps, I split one 8-oz. container between the 2 boys. I used to always use non-fat plain yogurt, but now I use non-fat yogurt with fruit. Strawberry-banana is their favorite. I don't do it every night (we sometimes alternate desserts), but I would say about 5 times a week.

I use yogurt with fruit also, but I would start with plain due to Carbons stomach issues. After he is eating and functioning normally then add different flavors.
My dogs favorite dessert is yogurt (plain or flavored) with apple or pear pieces and banana.

Absolutely agree - I was just getting lost in dessert!

Thanks. I'm picking up some yogurt after my son gets off of the bus and I'll give him a little with his evening meal. Is it a big deal to give him the yogurt and the probiotics? Is that overkill?
I'm really surprised that Carbs had such a strong reaction and the Corgi didn't. The Corgi can't even eat a broccoli stalk without issues, but he's doing great. Meanwhile, Carbon has always been able to eat anything with no problems. Maybe it's the fact that one's a pup and one's an adult?
Anyway, my fiance is starting to ask when he's going to be tended to as well as the dog is! I'm lucky, he's gone out of his way to help me with this...moving a freezer, talking to hunting friends to get some meat, running out to buy the fat-free chicken breast and immediately fixing the fence that "hooked" my dog. Not to mention listening to my almost constant prattle about Carbon and Farley's poo.
He won't say so, but he loves that dog. I always catch him lovin' on him when he thinks I'm not looking!
