I'm so sorry. Had a feeling you wouldn't be getting contact info. Their words pretty much confirm it.
Doesn't seem these people are trustworthy in anything they say. What I mean is, maybe they didn't give the dog away to new owners, maybe it's in a shelter. You might want to call shelters/rescues in their area, see if a Bloodhound was turned in.
I'm racking my brain for solutions, as I'm sure you are. I support you and all you did to resolve this, past and present.
Edited to add that I agree with Janice and Jim, and with the idea to alert shelters/rescues that you are interested in Bloodhounds, should any come in (if the BH hasn't shown up already).
Carol, unfortunately, this type of response is to be expected. The last thing ungrateful people, with problems they can't handle, need is someone desperately offering to pick up the mess they've made - in they're eyes, it makes them look bad. Very defensively, and selfishly, they will take all of this very personally and ignore the poor dog, again, in favor of regaining some sort of responsible image for themselves.
Don't be hurt by ANY OF IT.
SURE, you could have bent over backwards when they very first contacted you, sat by the phone, calendar in hand, and set up appointments with them to work with their dog. You could have given them all the time and energy in the world (which I guarantee would have been frustrating in it's own right), at the expense of all your other responsabilities... but it sounds to me like this dog wasn't meant to be theirs, and they probably would have gotten rid of her anyway (especially if she was as far gone as you thought).
You did your best. You put the dog first. In NO WAY is any of this your "fault". Disregard the verbal abuse and run that counter-ad in the paper ASAP.
