I know feeding RMBs are good. what if I just toss in a bunch of chicken meat with no bones? my pup has been on THK/raw combo for about 3 weeks now. I not gonna do a full on raw and may even go back to kibble (I know, I know). I would like to continue THK/raw combo as long as I can afford THK...lol. hes 4 months old tomorrow so is this a good time to start him on chicken wings?
I don't think you want to add much meat to a prepared diet without also adding bone or calcium.
Your pup should have no trouble with wings at this age. He could easily eat a chicken leg quarter now too.

What I don't get is how people( who are omnivores..) that are vegetarians, vegans, whatever.. have problems with even that, hair dying, teeth dying, some can even be infertile ( or so I heard from my old vegetarian roomate, so don't take my word for fact. )And try to make something that is primarily a carnivore, and fix it to a vegetarian lifestyle?
with people, it totally depends on the person as an individual and how well they eat a proper diet. i've been veg for 12 years and am far healthier than when i ate meat (had to take iron supplements, etc) - but that's my body and it works for me, it doesn't for everyone.
and it definitely doesn't for dogs. i agree - one quick look at their teeth is enough to show you they should be eating meat. that, and a desire for luc to get the best diet he could, is actually what got me to switch from kibble. he's a dog, he's so obviously built to eat meat, bones, etc - all this grain etc is just crazy to give them IMO.
I'm a vegetarian, too, and a very healthy one. And I agree 100% that dogs are not meant to be vegetarians at all.

You can toss in meat, RMBs, even cooked boneless meat, but only according to the maximum on the THK package directions.
If you want to exceed the proportion that the label specifies, then the items you are adding have to be balanced (calcium to phosphorous), as Debbie points out.
Chicken wings are not only not the best choice (being largely bones and fatty skin), but they are also not cheap (because they are so popular for BBQ, appetizers, Buffalo wings, etc.).
Backs would be good.... and *cheap*. :>

Amanda, are you sure your roommate wasn't a VEGAN? I've seen some pretty unhealthy looking vegans and even personally know someone who had to be hospitalized. However, the vegetarians I know always seem very healthy and have WAY more energy than I do.
Sorry for hijacking the thread though.
I wish I could find a great place to buy RMBs. I have 7 dogs right now and spent $70 on a bag of Innova kibble and it only lasted 6 days. They just love it. And I know they would love real meat even more.

She said she was vegetarian.
I've never looked much into it, so I don't really even know the difference.
By the way. This weekend I'm going to take a look around for something small to test raw on my pup.. now that she'll be constantly living with me, I can monitor her diet completely.
I'm actually kind of excited.

Wow! I had no idea there were so many vegetarians on this board:-).
Amanda, the difference between a Vegan and a Vegetarian is below.
VEGAN: Does not consume any form of animal products i.e. bone meal, honey, meat, fish, eggs, poultry, dairy, or animal derived products.
LACTO VEGETARIAN: Similar to Vegan but consumes Dairy products i.e. cheese, milk, sour cream, etc. and honey
OVO-LACTO VEGETARIAN: Thought by many to be the healthiest form of vegetarianism. Same as Lacto Vegetarian but includes eggs in the diet.
PESCATARIAN: In my personal opinion from a purely health standpoint, this is the healthiest of the four diets mentioned here. Same as an Ovo-Lacto but includes fish and seafood so has a readily available supply of Omega-3's as well as high quality protein.
Hope that clears up any questions. I personally am happy to see people who believe in supplying their dogs with a healthy, body appropriate diet regardless of their own personal dietary choices:-)
Cito!
