and is there such a thing as gaining weight back too fast, do i need to worry about that, or should i be trying to pack the weight on(not make them fat, just not looking like they have never been fed)
IMO, yes. Sudden, drastic weight gain is hard on the heart and gives the body a sudden shock of things to deal with. I would feed them frequent normal meals instead of letting them gorge (this is what they do with humans who have experienced periods of starvation anyway).
A huge ditto. Also, you don't want to trigger bowel upsets with unaccustomed big meals.
Frequent meals, as Amber mentioned, is right on..... I'd probably go with three small instead of two, for now.
They have almost definitely been receiving high-grain crap food, since rescues and shelters, no matter what they might want to feed, give what they can afford or what was donated.
So I'd switch somewhat gradually to no-grain. The body adjusts as well as it can to even the worst food, so their lil systems are not geared for what they should be geared for, and I am sure do not have their bone- and meat-processing enzymes in full production.
What do you have for them, for food?

i have Wellness puppy food(dry), the high calorie paste, cans of nutro ultra puppy, some Taste of the Wild Prairie Formula(grain free bison and venison), and some Natures Variety grain free Instinct canned food, chicken and venison.
i will go through the foods and see what they like best, and do best on.
lol, in the pics i am putting up, they are both bloated:
when i went to pick them up at the vets, i was filling out paperwork, and didnt realize they brought out the pups. The tech set them on the floor, and left. Well, within minutes, they had both wandered over to a bag of Science diet in the waiting area, tore open the bag, and gorged!!!!!
they are sooooo bloated, it's pretty funny looking. They have tiny heads, skinny legs, and HUGE bellies!

she is crazy!!!!
here goes the scabs on her, they both have these sores all over, it's sad.
and both their feet are like this, the vet doesn't know if it is from malnourishment, or from broken bones. It's the front feet, they are walking funny on them.

Can I ask you to move them to Member Bio (or maybe link us to a Photobucket page?)......
THANKS!!! LOL!
Take your time; I imagine you have your hands full. You move them when you can, and I'll delete this set later. OK?

They could be broken, but I doubt both would have it...I have seen that from extreme malnourishment. Disgusting. Be sure they get enough calcium (in proper balance to phos.). It can help with dogs that are "down in the pasterns," so maybe it can help these poor babies.

Yeah, I've seen it too. The last Boxer I rescued was crated for about 16hrs a day and was like that. He wasn't starved, but I assumed it was from lack of using his legs/feet. He also had scabs on both hips from lying on that plastic crate all day.

Oh my gosh...I don't know if I'm more sad or more angry about those poor pups. Is there something that can be done for their feet? Any future surgeries or anything? That just kills me. Those poor babes.
Oh, about all of the different foods you have. I'd pick one that's good (I personally like Wellness and Innova if you're going to stay with kibble) and stick with it for awhile. I wouldn't jump around from food to food...it could cause problems with their digestive system.
I guess the aggession issues with the female solves the seperating quandry, eh?
Out of curiosity, what's the brown water they're drinking in the female's pic? Is it broth...or just a trick of the light?
