Just returned from the appointment. He was almost positive it was a flea allergy as soon as he saw her. Asked all kinds of questions-also did not target me about my recent switch to raw. Just said that would be an especially good idea if we were to be absolutely sure about what might be a food allergy but he said he was almost sure it was fleas.
They gave me a shampoo and said to wash her with it once a week. Also gave me prednisone tablets to feed her once a day for a week then every other day to help with the itching.
He also mentioned since we treat with frontline to mix it up a bit since they can built up slight immunities to the treatment and suggested we treat some of the animals with something different than frontline to help keep the fleas down to minimum.
They gave me three months worth of a flea killer called Vectra 3D just to put on her. I'm supposed to call back in three weeks to check with him.
Nope, no dirt. He took her and combed her really good and couldn't find a trace of fleas but he said it doesn't mean they aren't there.
It's like 2 weeks worth of pills. 10mg each.
One thing he said to me-he had a strong accent and said he is italian- he asked me what lines she was and said back in italy it seemed like he got tons and tons of pure german dogs in with skin issues and here he has only seen about 10 american GSD's for it. It isn't written anywhere, he said he just noticed it. Thought that was strange.
Oh he also said to treat her with flea medication ever 2-3 weeks.
