I'd shop around, I think, because Oliver was $269 for the pre-tests, cleaning, x-rays, anesthesia. (This was a "winter dental special," but even when not on "special," this goes for $325.) Added to that was a two-root extraction at $59.
I am looking at the bill. Everything else was related to the mass excised from his eyelid. Even with that, it was a total, dental and surgical mass removal, of under $600.

Hmmm. The only other time I've had to have someone's teeth cleaned was Mitch (cat), and he didn't have any teeth but his canines (life on the street isn't good for the teeth), and he went in and had all his canines pulled plus one broken off tooth they found inflamed in his gumline, and that was $700, but he did need 2 surgeries (he stayed overnight and had the second the next day) b/c he started to go under a bit too much (he has asthma in addition to some other stuff) and they didn't want to leave him under any longer.
I'm just wondering if Toronto has higher vet costs. I will ask at a couple of other vets I trust (which is another big thing for me). I'd actually figured it would cost $700-1000, so I wasn't too far off.
Plus, until the weather gets better Teagan and I will be back at the dog pool - a 45 minute session is $45, so I have to budget for that too. I am SO upset about her knees. Sigh.

Absolutely!
It's hard to compare because we are spread out over the whole world here.
Turbo's bill was $200 even. Thats for bloodwork, heartworm test, urinalysis, and everything involved in a thorough dental.(x-ray, anesthesia, the dental itself)
This vet was not advertising a "dental month" special, either. Everybody around him that was still had a higher price.

Your guys fees are giving me heart attacks.
To compare - what would a basic checkup be?

An office visit is sub-$25.
1/4 mile away, at the previous vet, was pushing $50.
I had an itemized bill from yesterday that got thrown away already. Sorry.:frown:

Not all that far off from Oliver's $269, considering that I live in a location that's similar to Manhattan or San Francisco for being ridiculously expensive.

$30, but that's with nothing done -- no lab, no meds, etc.
It does include a non-rushed 15 minutes or more with the vet, who goes over the dog pretty thoroughly: looks in mouth and ears, watches him walk, palpates abdominal area and testicles if intact, looks for inflammation/discharge with a female.

No, actually I live in a pretty smallish town. But it's on the Bay, which is just like other coastal touristy places.
Prices here are just like San Francisco.
Yeah, I think my vet is OK! It's a VCA, which I guess is a franchise, but one has nothing to do with another (except maybe prices?) because naturally it all depends on the vets who own the practice.

Yeah, I paid over $150 today for a basic checkup - nothing special - and a CBC. The checkup was....I don't have the bill w/me, but I think $59. I would say that's pretty standard.
