I just fall back onto the data that the planet Mars has heated up by the exact same degree as Earth has - meaning either it's the Sun's varible output, or else we're somehow able to heat up other planets with our "man-made global warming".
A book that I highly recommend is "Physics For Future Presidents" by Richard A. Muller.
Muller is a professor of physics at the University of California, Berkley.
The book covers Terrorism, Energy, Nukes, Space and Global Warming. It is written for the layman, but for those interested he includes the math in the notes at the back of the book.
The book is written from the perspective of a scientist trying to advise policy makers on these five issues.
The section on global warming is pretty interesting. While Muller is a believer, he isn't afraid to point out where the distortions and exaggerations are, and the limits to the "scientific consensus" on global warming. For example, he points out that the IPCC says it is 90% certain that at least some of the warming that has been observed over the past 50 years is due to human activity. And Muller believes they are right. But then he goes on to point out that 90% certainty is below the threshold that is acceptable for papers published in peer reviewed journals.
I think you need to understand the science before you can make up your mind about the truth, or lack of it, behind the climate change and global warming arguments. Muller does a good job of presenting the science in a way that non-scientists can understand. I highly recommend the book, and no, he didn't pay me for this recommendation.
