Alyssa,
That's too bad that veterinarians wouldn't help the stray puppy. I would help in a heart beat.
Brad,
I'm wondering how is the puppy doing? Any updates? I hope he gets a chance to let us know how the puppy is doing.

Alyssa,

They're risking losing pay, rank and potentially confinement, extra duty and other unpleasantness.
I looked the other way a lot, and "lost" a dog once, but I don't know that I would have flat-out jeopardized my career for a dog.

Ya got me there!
I'd be reduced to holding the herb in one hand while miming water coming out of my arse, and puking worms at the other.
Oh!! OH!!! PLEASE let me get the clue "wormwood" at our next charades gathering....

Eggshell is supposed to be an old timey worm remedy as well. Don't know if they worm my dogs, but all my dogs love to crunch them!

Hi Everyone,
Oh my God! I cannot believe the amount of replies this has gotten. Thank you all so very much. I am unable to go back and read them all as our internet connection is less than stellar over here and i will time out before I even could. This is the first chance I have been able to get back to this in the last two days for reasons I cannot disclose; however, I felt that i should give an update for anyone who had read my question.
To my broken heart, our little puppy did not make it. She was in such terrible shape that i couldn't even hide behind my denial anymore. We did our best to put her to sleep as peacefully as possible. Our platoon medic administered a large dose of morphine to her. I hope she is in a better place and can forgive us for failing her. Thank you all so very much for help.
Sincerely,
Brad

Failed her?
You gave her love and care and a painless exit.
You SO did not fail her.
If only we could all have such as you if we are ever alone and too sick to make it.

Bless your soul, you did everything you can. Ditto Connie, you didn't fail the puppy at all. You did it out of your love and kindness.

Oh Brad, I'm so terribly sorry.
I know how much a little ball of fluff can mean over there.
You did the best you could, and I think honestly, she would have rather had the short life she did with you, than a long life of neglect and maltreatment on the outside.
She died with friends, knowing she was cared for.
Everyone has to go sometime, and she died in the best possible place she could have.
You did good. Don't EVER think you didn't.
