Thank you! I remember realizing that I really must love my dogs when I spent about half an hour cutting up and packing tripe for freezing before my S.O. opened the kitchen door and started screaming because of the terrible stink. Just then I realized that I didn´t even notice it (now that is HARD) because I was busy thinking about how they love it and how good it is for them.

Just processed 10 lbs of green tripe last night. Good gawd, that stuff smells. Now that it's summer here, I did it outside--much better than stinkin' up the kitchen for what seems like days. But so worth it for my girl.

Linda, I buy canned green tripe (Merrick BG), but would love to know how to make my own. I'm sure it's a nasty concoction, but if anyone has "recipes," I'd consider giving it a shot. I grew up watching Quincy, hopefully I could stomach it!

Thanks for the "recipe," Michael! Had no idea it was just cut and freeze. I'm a big fan of comedic sarcasm, no worries here. One of the local colleges raises and sells beef cattle, I'll contact them Monday about some rumen and reticulum. Bet they don't get that phone call every day!
I am Soooooooo grateful that my local bulk supplier of my raw food has the fresh tripe in 2 pound chubs, and I don't have to even
think about having to package my own, thank gawd.
Luckily, the dogs have the benefits of tripe without me having to do anything but thaw it,

The rumen and reticulum are just the first 2 chambers of a ruminant stomach. Also the biggest. That is why I only get those 2 chambers.
The third chamber, the omasum is smaller and has really dry grass caked into it. It is good for them too, just a little tougher to get the bulk of the grass out of.
When you are playing in tripe, time is something you pay attention to.:wink:
The last chamber, the abomasum, is also good for them if you want to mess with it. The farther down the digestive tract you go, the closer the contents is to crap. Since this is the last chamber it is full of, well.....crap. I leave it at the slaughter house.:smile:
