My two major fighting bitches just flipped on each other one day when they were well into maturity. They were not ranking before that and they could not be in the same house without one being crated or they would go through a crowd to get to each other.
Rob, do other dogs react to his "handicap"? As some dogs will react to weakness in another. To me that is a pack thing and I have worked around it with training. Had a vestibular syndrome old girl who, when she would stagger or act unsure the young and up and coming Bullmastiff bitch would attack her. We put an end to that immediately. The two were never unsupervised and when the old girl would stagger we would get our control of the BMF fast. In a month or so the bullmastiff started running over and stablizing the staggering. How or why she did it is beyond me, but she did. It was really touching. She would hold her up and help her walk around. Never ever attacked her again. When the old girl was finally PTS both bullmastiffs mourned worse than any dogs I have seen. Go figure.
Exercise fixes a lot of things...with people too....now if my DH could figure that out.
So many of the dogs I see are underexercised and either their health is compromised (fat, joint troubles etc) or their attitudes are off the wall. (aggressive, hyper and out of control)
