We also have to register all our dogs with the county.
We also have a barking limit. They are not aloud to bark more then 2 times an hour while outside.
The registration is through the purchase of the Rabies tag? I think in a neighboring town you also have to pay a city registration fee. For both fees the cost differs if the dog is intact or altered.
A bark limit, huh? Now who on earth decided that 2 barks an hour is sufficient or tolerable? For my dogs that can be the greatest part of being outside....alert, alert x 50 x the dogs outside.....a squirrel is in the vicinity..
Here its a rabies tag plus fee. Flat fee though does not matter if the dog is whole or not. Its a yearly fee per-dog.
As far as who came up with that redic bark limit. Probably some law makers that wanted a raise. Hahaha.
I know people who breed and train sled dogs who have more than 100 well cared for, exercised, trained, vetted, loved dogs. I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 bunnies, a chinchilla and my hamster just died I work at an animal shelter lol. We recently got in a red earred slider and I considered adopting it, but once I researched it I accepted it was too much time and money and expertise I didnt have. You have to not only provide medical care and food and shelter for whatever animals you choose to have but also make sure they are getting enough exercise.
It really maddens me that we domesticate these animals like rabbits, rats, chinchillas, guinea pigs etc and stick them in what would be like sticking a human in a bathroom for its entire life. Rabbits need 2hrs of exercise a day, they poop, pee and chew cords, chinchillas are hard to catch and also poop and chew. They still need exercise just like a dog needs to be walked or it goes insane. Putting these animals in the cages the pet stores sell for their entire lives to me should be considered animal cruelty.
I personally find my two bunnies more work then my 3 dogs.....
I rent right now and when I am able to own a house, which will be a while considering here the average price of an average home is $750 000, I want many more animals but will have the space and security to do so. Its all knowing your limits which is what it really comes down to. I feel bad for both the animals and the people in hoarding situations....
Done ranting now
old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown
In our county these laws are on the books but are not enforced unless there are complaints re-barking,odors, suspicion of cruelty, poor husbandry/ neglect.
Charlottesville has a barking law, too, within city limits. A dog can not bark for more than 30 minutes, non-stop. And, if you are going to call the cops on someone for violation, you have to be able to prove it (recording, etc.).
That's on the reasonable side to me, for a nuisance barking law. I've never heard of 2 barks per hour! Seems pretty nuts to me.
