Love Temple Grandin's books. Just finished Dean Koontz "The Taking". Ka-reep-eee! His "Life Expectancy" is also great. Lots more humor than his usual and a real page turner as well.
I also picked up and enjoyed, "Dogs Don't Bite When a Growl Will Do." Not so terribly much about dogs, but a way of living. A sample chapter:

Almost finished 'The Second After' that Will mentioned earlier. Too real for words. Really makes you think about what you would do if it happened. Sure changed the way I think about some things.

Dog Tags by David Rosenfelt. It is set in NJ & is about a 'silver spoon' lawyer that is hired to defend a retired ex police K9 & then ends up defending his x army & x police k9 handler owner,as well. It is a fun read. Many of the lawyers lines are gems. LOL
Rosenfelt has other books out, that I have not read, but think they are also about dogs in some way.
I just picked up " Merle's Door, Lessons from a Freethinking Dog"
It is really fantastic.
The story is told by Ted Karasote, whom is an avid outdoors man and Merle, a lost dog who is living wild. The two find each other and become life long companions.
Tales of adventure filled with lessons learned from both man and dog. It is heartwarming and quite touching too.
I am a sucker for a good dog story, especially when it is written so well. This one is really very good.
