YEP!! oldearthdog, we need to start a Topic on TRAINING DOG OWNERS.
Butch: Bet I could fill a Football field full of students. Most of these so called Dog owners always have the answer to everything, what can you teach somebody with this type of attitude, NOTHING! Isn't this so sad. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
When I was involved with teaching obedience, the first night was without the dogs(orentation). We explained that we weren't going to train their dog, but we were going to teach them each week what they would take home and work on with their dogs. It always amaized me how many people didn't show up for week two.
That's why you collect the entire course money up front with no refund for no shows. You would think that would stop a lot of that, but nope still happens! True idiots!
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!

I did do this for free. We were volunteers from the local obedience club. That is how I got started in Obedience. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
oldearthdog, It's so sad but true. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I take my Akita to my wife's 1st grade class. This gives me the chance to at least teach the kids how to interact with their dogs and other dogs. It may make a differience in keeping them safe. At least I hope so!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Speaking of kids and dogs - you'd be amazed at the parents that will send their kids to "go pet the doggie" without asking or anything! It kind of makes you wonder what is going on in these peoples pointy little heads to act in such a way but they are probably the same people that try to get photos of their kids feeding marshmallows to the bears.
Little late, but how about the owners of small dogs that think it's 'cute' when their dog acts aggressively? We had my two pit bulls at Petsmart, and there was a woman with an aggressive miniature pinscher, all of about 5 lbs running around on a flexi (fully extended, of course). She thought it was just so funny watching him bark at two much bigger dogs-she allowed him to come right up to mine. I have a feeling someday that "poor little dog" will get straightened out by some "vicious, much larger dog" (the quotes are how she'll describe the situation).
