BTW, this "well he just vomited again but smeeled like poop" means vet, immediately.
Of course it can be the dog eating poop, but this whole history sounds like the dog needs the vet asap, and other reasons for vomitus smelling like poop can be urgent and serious. JMO.
I'd be on the phone the minute they opened in the morning and saying exactly that.
If you need to, write it all down. (Phone calls to vets so often end with "click. DAMMIT, I forgot ....." )
What the poop looks and smells like, and how often. Do they suggest sedation. What samples, if any.
My guess you are safe to wait until tomorrow for the vet-assuming he is acting chipper.
I would be thinking about irritable bowel, gastric problem, or a possible bowel obstruction. Dogs with bowel obstruction usually don't eat, but some do, especially if the blockage is toward the end of the small intestine.
I would think light sedation should be enough, assuming that you can handle him, i.e. keep him from biting the vet and the technician. They will want to feel his abdomen, they will be feeling for a "lump" which could suggest a foreign body (toy, bone). They are going to want to draw blood, and they may wish to take an Xray of his abdomen. The blood could be drawn from the hind leg while you control the head. It might be possible for them to draw the blood, look at the results of that, and then perhaps you could assist with the Xrays, in which case he would not have to be knocked out-- or, perhaps liability in the modern vet office makes that impossible.
They may spend lots of your money, find nothing, and try some antacid type products, antibiotics and a dietary change.
I wish I could tell you more.
When vomit smells like stool it makes you think that things are not moving along correctly-- he needs to be checked out.
well i got eli home from the vet today and he said he couldent find anything wrong with him.The dog did stop vomiting lastnight around 10pm . vet did a reg check up and an in house chem panel w/cbc & lytes , heartworm/lyme/ear/ap , an xray , gardi- ova & parasite t405 and a covenia innjection . he just said to call tomorrow to check on the stool sample ad he did loose about 15 pounds sennce the last time he was at the vet
