3 older hens and the 5 new chicks now - and I only expect eggs out of them, although I keep dual-purpose birds.
The rabbits are our primary meat source ( although between deer, elk, and fish we are generally eating more game than raised meat - this area is just crazy with wildlife ).
Did it take a while to become comfortable eating the rabbits? I had a hard time eating the roosters we've slaughtered, and don't know if that will get easier in time... (I know if I'm hungry enough, it won't be a problem.)

Will I know you like to cook so if you ever have a day where you want to try something different and really fun. I had this dish a really long time ago in at some gourmet cookout thing Denver but it certainly was memorable and tasty.
Also anyone with a taste for rabbit should try Jugged hare at least once. I tried it at Toga's and although I'm not sure the dish was 100% authentic it was really good and a very unique flavor.

What kind of rabbits are best for raising for meat? We have been thinking of getting some to raise for meat and using a couple as 4-H projects, but I'm clueless. My FIL would love me if I did! He started eating rabbit while in the military in the 60's and noone will raise them for him b/c they're too cute to eat. I disagree All this chick talk makes me want to run out to the farm store. I try to avoid it at all costs this time of year, but I'm sure I can think of something I need...
