Glad to hear that she is home & comfortable. No place better for healing then in the comfort of your own home. The donut collar is the way to go. Much better then the cones that make them so misserable.
And partial shots of her incision for those who are brave- bad pics, but I was laying on the ground under her to look at it! She has some bruising (to be expected), but otherwise it is looking pretty good IMO.
Looks good though...no signs of redness etc. Looks like a healthy line. I'd keep her bed covers etc clean & keep her off the ground outside etc to work at keeping that incision area clean of dirt, grass etc. Fortunately they heal pretty quickly. Much faster then we do.
The donut is what I used, also. Much more conmfortable for the dogs.
Anne - That is really only about 2/3 of it...the front and the middle. She is actually wearing Vigo's thundershirt for much of the time and it is keeping her from bothering the incision and keeping it clean. Glad the thundershirt is coming in handy for something! Vigo wore it a bit during fireworks season and it helped, but it's otherwise been idle.
Incision looks great. The bruising is from stretching the skin to gain access.
Obviously, no jumping, wrestling. Walking (around the block, slow and w/o other dogs) is good. Leads to a long nap for healing.
Consider twice daily feeding vs. the standard adult dog one big meal. Sometimes post op there can be some cramping from manipulation of intestines -- smaller meals are better tolerated.
She looks brave. Soon she may be feeling better than she was pre-op .
Glad to hear she's doing so well. She's such a pretty girl! The incision is not for the faint of heart, I guess, but at least her scar won't show (most of the time).
Really glad to see her on the road to recovery. That's quite an incision. She'll have something to proudly show her friends eventually once it heals. Hope she gets better soon.
