today Bindi and I worked on Take it and give. She doesn't like to put things in her mouth (except pinecones) o we are working on her take it and give behaviors. We also worked on distractions in the down/stay and sit/stay. She caved when another dog owner wanted to pet her and began calling her and acting silly. So, we had to try again. She did better later. She is a very social dog with humans. She used to be afraid of people, but now loves people.
That was it for today.
Hope all of you have a good training week. Sharon and my pups, Terra, Bindi, Cody

Today is the St-Jean.
SO we went for a walk in the crowd so loud music, crazy nut drunks and all the fun of a party.
No fireworks in respect for the 2 persons who lost their life in last Thursday BEM explosion. There were still some back yard fireworks and firecrackers going off here and there.
We worked on ignoring the distractions and did a long down while the BF went to get some iced coffee. It is a big change from our normal peaceful life.
Next week end is Canada day so more fun with a lot of distractions in perspective.

We had a good weekend with a lot more quality time!
I think we are finally starting to see significant progress with puppy nipping. His mouth is a lot softer when he does touch skin and the times he does touch skin are rare, usually only after he's gotten really amped up playing or has been cooped up too long and is really eager to play. The new tugs have held up well as well.
We went out hiking, using people and dogs on the trail as distractions and this worked well for the most part. Both dogs we met were very large, mature GSD mixes, oddly enough. Sam was afraid of one and hid behind my leg. The other he barked at and did a play bow toward. I rewarded when he was quiet and focused on me. Happily both owners had their dogs on leash and kept their distance except to comment on how cute my "GSD puppy" was. LOL!
I've been working on leash manners since he's getting big on us and he has started doing better on pulling, but I'm considering other options for better control.
This week, I'm planning more of the same as well as finishing the Power of Training with markers video and starting the Power of Training Dogs with Food.

Today Bindi and I worked on rally, some advanced skills at Rally training today. She did very well, great eye contact, happy to be there and we had fun! Also worked on recall and wait, with duration, sit and down. while we waited our turn we practiced shake and paw, Paw being bindi' left paw, and shake her right. Soon I will be teaching her modifier cues, left and right. Beginning with right and left paw. So, we practiced using each paw a few times.
At home bindi and I worked a very short session of distance work. She is doing better, not so much creeping forward.
Took Cody to the park this morning, we ran around and had fun. Then he came up and started heeling, so we worked on that as well. He did beautifully.
Nothing for Terra today, tomorrow is her day to go for a walk and be trained.

today we put the stand to purpose, bath time. Dexter hate water and when it comes from the hose he hates it even more. We also introduce the don't shake, well that did not work so I got a bath too. He did stood there, leash enforcing staying in place.
Harley loves the hose and the water so it is much easier to bath him. He knows stand mean stand and don't move but he so want to play with the water or the hose.
Both dogs go nuts after they are released from the wash stall.

Did some nosework with Harley. Two sessions both with an indoor and outdoor target.
In the first session one target was in someone boot and the other one was in some daylily. There was no wind so he was spot on.
In the second session one target was in my tool box and the other one was on the horse trailer tailgate. The wind was much stronger and the trailer was harder and Ozzy, my black tabby, was not helping being under the trailer and hissing at Harley. He still indicated very close to the target.
I am happy with his work, very focus, good sniffing and solid indication.

Yesterday I was very proud of Sam. We took him shopping with plenty of treats. We went to the big box pet store, Home Depot, and then sat outside a coffee shop and chatted. I stuck with our current strategy for socialization and treated him for ignoring strangers and focusing on me and proofed some of his commands in different areas with distractions. He did great and was so much more confident than previous weeks!
We're working on leash manners and planning a trip to the farmer's market, which is pretty crowded, this weekend. I plan on keeping to the outskirts, particularly at first, and seeing how he does. We also are almost done with the markers video. I always overestimate how quickly we can get through the videos. They are really long and it's a lot of information to take in at one sitting.
