First dog was a GSD. Great dog but vary laid back. Excellent dope dog and tracker (as long as the guy wasnt moving, we could eventually catch up). Retired the GSD and got a Mal. OMG what a difference. Like going from a VW to a Ferrari. Problems with the Mal...continually have to hold him back for dope and tracks. Does a great job, but if I dont hold him back he will go too fast and miss. Good thing about the Mal...because of him I finally quit smoking. Couldnt keep up.
Also the shedding is NOTHING like the GSD. My GSD is a sable and sheds enough everyday to make a litter of pups. The mal hardly leaves any hair in the cruiser.
My opinion...great dogs, great drive, but could be tough for a first time handler.

JOHN PATRICK SEEMS LIKE WE BOTH HAVE HAD THE THE SAME GERMAN SHEPHERD & MALINIOS FOR PARTNERS.ONLY DIFFERENCE IS MY MAL LOSES THE TRACK IF I DON'T LET HIM GO & SHEDS IN MY CAR LIKE CRAZY. ANY SUGGESTIONS. WHEN I SAY LOSE THE TRACK, I MEAN HE WILL STOP LOOK AT ME RUN IN A CIRCLE TO BREAK FREE TRACK A LITTLE & REPEAT THE BEHAVIOR.
BUT OVER ALL HE IS THE BEST DOG I EVER HAD. I HAD ONE VERY GREAT SHEHERD THAT PASSED. THEN I WENT THROUGH 12 SHEPHERD THAT WERE GARBAGE FOR PSD BEFOR CHOOSEING MY FIRST MAL. IT WOULD TAKE ALL 12 OF THOSE SHEPERDS COMBINED TO BE HALF OF HIM & SOME.
