Everyone's a comedian today . Funny Will. I'm stuck with both a job and snow. Real funny.

Dude I'ts TRUE!! I went to this place they call "Canada" like a month ago, n I swear, there's all this white fluffy stuff EVERYWHERE!! From the plane, at first I thought everything in Toronto was covered in sand, but I thought to myself "Toronto shouldn't be covered in sand", and sure enough, it was all kindsa cold and everything was covered in this fluffy white stuff! I thought they just did that in the movies to make us folks in the south feel good about having nicer weather than the rest of the country.
The traits that make a dog able to do real manwork, able to be trained to a high level, and be effective in a serious conflict situation are generally the traits that make a dog hard to live with, and hard to have around every Tom, Dick, and Jane safely.
The better the dog, generally the harder it will be to incorporate him into a "normal" family life.
It's a bit of a fantasy that there are dogs out there that can be selected who will both be able to fight a man when something bad happens and be able to live as a normal friendly everyday pet dog.
I was so concerned that I get a puppy that would blend into the family I ended up with a dance partner and not a protection dog. She likes "ABBA"
PPD dogs around children big no no for me, A true PPD dog, which is high in civil drive, I would never allow to engage with children period and that goes for some schutzhund dogs, who have very high fight drive and who are dominant in nature. No matter how stable theres always a first time
I have no idea how many stories, I hear of dogs attacking children, and People say but he grew up with them,He was great with kids and also the perfect watch dog, then he wasn't a proper PPD dog.The ones I have seen, I wouldn't even leave a prosethic arm lying around them.
.. and I know lots of "pet" dogs who I would not have around my kids, period!
I would trust a much higher number of trained SchH or PPDs over your average pet any day of the week! Pets have no idea when it is/is not appropriate to bite.. trained dogs have a much better concept of that whole biting thing.
Oh, and IMO, civil is not a drive.. more a behavior.

Hi Michelle,
I think on another thread you said you had been going to club for 10 years if I'm not getting my posts goofed up. Can you tell us a little bit about your background with personal protection dogs?
What you are describing is not what I see every weekend at the club I attend. But then I've been doing it a lot less then 10 years...

Ding ding ding!
"We have a winner!!"
Sammy points out the facts that all experienced dog trainers know first hand.
When the Texas voice of experience speaks, it's worth it to listen, and I'm being serious here.......
