But their vets sell the stuff. Who among us never relied on the medical community for advice and then found out way later that the medical community was relying on someone who was selling something (pharmaceutical companies, Hills.....)?
I consider myself very fortunate that the information about a better way to feed and better ways to look at vaccinations came along, AND that it was in a form that was convincing enough to cause me to question the vets' knowledge on the subject.
Sometimes I want to send fan letters to people like Richard Pitcairn, Ian Billinghurst, Tom Lonsdale, and others who took on the whole veterinarian community (and were ostracized and ridiculed, in some cases thrown out of professional associations, and saw their practices suffer for years)......

"As all newspeople know, the last day of the week is when you release an item you’d prefer to bury—not one you need to broadcast."
Next week something will happen and we'll all say d@mn media, but at least they aren't letting this die. Our state news channels have said something about it every night since it was released. I called a friend that I knew fed Iams and told him about the recall. He got his dog in to the vet today to be checked out. This same dog was showing signs of kidney failure a few months ago. Hmmmm?
It also makes me mad 'cause now it seems like Iams is trying really hard with more commercials the past few days. It may just be me noticing more, though. "Iams.... 4 out of 5 vets recommend Iams to promote a healthy life for your pets.....except for that one time that we killed a lot of your pets and let them get sick for months before we told you. Sorry." Whooda thunk that 1 vet had it right?

My friend's parent's dog is suddenly ill. It has been fed Iams wet food. Unfortunately, it's a low income family that neither has the means nor determination to report the illness and/or treat the dog as needed. They'll never know if it's coincidence or the food. It makes me wonder how many cases will be unreported and how many pets will suffer.

The scary thing about it is that some people don't even research what's in the food they feed their kids, let alone their dogs. It's not just human ignorance that bothers me, it's the desire to STAY ignorant that makes me nuts. Bury-your-head-in-the-sand types are everywhere. <whine> Research is just too much WORK! <whine>
There's an article in my local paper about two sister cats that had some of the tainted food and had kidney failure. Hopefully this will make *some* people start to pay attention to what they're feeding.

Ok, someone set me straight.
What exactly is Wheat Gluten used for? I mean what purpose does it serve in canned food.
Is it used as a thickener of some sort?
I've tried to google it, but can't find anything explaining why exactly its used.
Just out of curiosity I've checked the kibble (no, its not on the recall list) I am using and don't see wheat gluten listed in the ingredients at all, so I am wondering what purpose it serves in canned food.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

It's a cheap filler. Boosts the protein content by upping the grain protein. Dogs can't use grain prtotein well, but that isn't taken into account.
Way cheaper than meat.

I've also heard that it's used to thicken the gravy in the moist and canned foods.
As you think, so shall you be. |
