Thanks, I'm on it.
I just emailed Gene saying I will take Stark. I just need him to ship him to me at his cost, which is not much more than a dog that size would cost to euthanize at some hospitals. I just hope he gets my message in time, so if anyone knows Gene, let him know to check his PM's and emails!

You may have done this same thing many times before but since I have followed this thread I want to say that I wish you luck and I'm glad for the dog and his owner that you are stepping in.

I've fostered before, and rehomed several dogs for other people, so I'm not terribly worried about finding him a great home. His days won't be numbered at my house; he'll be fine until the PERFECT home presents itself. Thanks for the support.

Holy crap, are you kidding me? Are we sure it's the same person? WTF?!?!
After I went to bat for him, too...
Through PMs and messages, it was very clear that there is NO WAY the dog would be euthanized, or even given to a shelter. I really hope this is some sort of miscommunication, but if not I'm seriously upset about this. Again, WTF?!?!
Jenni, please keep us posted about this, will you?

Thanks guys. I'll let you all know what happens.
Yeah, Howard, it is a good feeling when you place a dog in what you can be sure is a PERMANENT, loving home. The best is when you keep in contact with them for years. I just can't let a dog that age who really hasn't done anything wrong die. The satisfaction of placing him will far outweigh the temporary hassle of having dog number 6...dog aggressive, dog number 6.

Jenni, do you have dog runs or kennels and what kind? Design? With 6 dogs, I'm sure you've got a cool system already worked out...

My entire garage is comprised of 3 large chain link kennels. They're 6'high. I took 2 complete kennels and turned them into 3 by using the walls and corners in my garage. I just had to buy one extra door. Caleb can get out, but he'll stay in there if he sees me drive away. If I walk away, he'll join me . For everyone else, they're great. I have room for Stark b/c I can put Xander (my 6mo old Czech pup) in with Blaster (friend's Czech dog) and free up the end kennel. I'll let Stark in the house when I can watch him, but I can't chance an issue with Widget or Mia...that wouldn't end well.
My Chi, Widget stays in the house, and Mia usually does too. They can be trusted alone during the day together.
Caleb stays in the kennel while I'm at work and at night, as he never sleeps, and I cannot sleep with the clickety-clack of his nails on the floors all night long. If he's not clickety-clacking, he's growling and barking. He's too edgy to sleep soundly, so I kicked him out. Now he snarls and barks and growls all night in the garage instead of the house. His kennel is wall-to-wall carpeting, and he has a crate in it w/a metal pan for when he wants to be cooler, and his oscillating fan isn't doing the trick. The other dogs get rotated; Caleb's the only one with his very own room, and I've found him to be so much more relaxed since he has his own space. He's by far the most territorial. I need to get out of my subdivision though. I'm working on some acreage about an hour from here...it would be a much better situation for all. But, what I have is ok for now. Good enough, anyway.
In the back yard (6'privacy fenced) I have another 7x30' chainlink run with a huge wooden house. I have decent luck with working with dog aggressive dogs, so I'm not really worried about Stark. Not to put-down Gene, but I don't think much was ever done to work with Stark. My dogs are controlled enough that I can work them around others and trust them (ie, I can handle Stark and trust Caleb to stay where I told him to to prevent fights). Hopefully, I can make some headway. But I can't do anything until Gene or his wife tells me if I can have him or not!
So, that's my crew and my "system" in probably much more detail than you were looking for.
